I don't know what the song was called. u u; But it was in Castlevania IV. And then 'Oracle' from Secret of Mana...
And this really isn't video game music.. but the fight music that's in Naruto... by Toshiro Masuda... Not a big Naruto fan.. but that composer has something going for 'em.

+the sephiroth battle songs, they set the mood
+the battle music in Luca when leblanc escapes the concert at the beginning

"The Red Knight" (I think) from Xenogears is an excellent battle theme. It's the song that plays in most boss battles, in case you didn't know.

FF3 or 4, FF-wise. I think ToP, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears & Xenosaga Episode 1 are still some of my favourites though. The first Baten Kaitos & Shadow Hearts had some nice battle music as well.

I love Pirate's Gigue from Kingdom Hearts. It's the battle theme from Neverland. It's so well orchestrated. I can't describe it very well at the moment, but you catch my drift, I suppose.
