Makes good music...

That answer my friend is blowing in the wind...

I've been listening to alot of the tracks on 'The Essential'. Pretty good stuff.

Now take me dissapearing through the smoke rings of my mind
the foggy ruins of time
far past the frozen leaves
the haunted frightened trees
down to the windy beach
far past the reach of crazy sorrow.

But his lyrics make up for it.

He's probably the greatest musician to have lived in the 20th century.

I love Dylan. Love the sound of his voice, his lyrics, all of it.

My favorite song of his is probably Subterrain Homesick Blues.

As a troubadour, I respect Bob Dylan immensely for his work and innovation. As a songwriter he accomplished many important things in the conception of modern folk music in the 60's, building on the work of Phil Ochs and Woody Guthrie. That said, I really just don't like his voice at all. But a superb songwriter and important part of modern music.

I enjoy his music. I ought to buy one of his records instead of just CDs.

I disagree based on a lot of things.

This is one artist that I absolutely cannot listen to. It doesn't matter to me how great his lyrics are or what he's accomplished in his career because sound is more important to me and he doesn't have any.

Am I alone when I say that Dylans version of All Along the Watchtower is superior to Jimi's?

I like Dylan's version a lot, but I do prefer Hendrix's.

Dylan has about a dozen fantastic songs, and a bunch of mediocre ones. I don't mind his voice that much, and at his best he's a superb lyricist, but he's not quite the legend some make him out to be.

Bob Dylan's songs are so good that it doesn't even matter that he can't sing very well. Actually, in all fairness, he can carry a tune decently enough. Its his harmonica playing that gets me...

Arguably the best songwriter of the 20th century.

Yes.

His singing and harmonica playing are soulful.

Yeah, Bren nailed it.

I suppose from a technical standpoint he cant sing... but I love the way his voice sounds. Or rather sounded. He sounds very different now and that's a bummer.

Bah, can't really stand him. Lyrics aside, the music was usually weak, and like has been noted he can't sing so lyrics didn't really matter.

Bob Dylan once said that Hendrix's version of AAtW was better than his.
