What would you like to see in the next Soul Calibur game?

An online competition mode would be the first thing I think of. Many have wanted it for a while. I also think it would be nice if the player had the ability to choose a fighting style from one of the older SC games. Other than that, the usual. New characters, stages, and tweaked move-sets. It doesn't really matter what they add, really. I will always buy the Soul Calibur games as they come out. o_o

what you said.

plus!

mopre use of the stage. like, gravity mechanics like using the walls/objects etc... and climbing up them to explore more sections of the arena (maybe diving off a roof of a cathedral to while piking whoever lay beneath it, AoE effect slashs when fighting whoever many foes at once.

ooooooh, and ARENA DESTRUCTION <3!!!!!

Arena destruction never plays as big a role as promos claim. It's really always been stupid to me. If you can't destroy everything, you shouldn't be able to destroy anything. I'm an all or nothing guy.

I'd like more disciplines . . . they should include Tekken-style disciplines.
The story mode was way too weird and I detest the quest mode.
I can't stand fighter Mini-Games. They're all worthless IMO.
I'd also like to see . . . Pac Man! :chuckle:

SC is as good of a series as Tekken albeit not as popular. I think it's reached the stage where only minor changes in movelists + new stages etc. is required. Tekken isn't showing much innovation other than in the physics engine and stage design and SC could easily work toward making minor, baby-step changes. After all, too much change can be a bad thing.

As long as Cassandra remains the powerhouse she was in SC3 as well as SC2, I will be more than content. A definite return to the arcades will really have me off my feet though. Online play would be awesome too, but nothing beats a good ol' fashioned coin-operated pwning.

Fix Talim, since she's been nerfed in SC3. Online play is a no no. Can you imagine exact frame input with lags? Impossible.

By the way, Hwang and Li Long are already in the SCIII story. They're just not as important as the standard characters. Profiles here: http://www.soularchive.jp/

Ah, this is why I would like it if players could choose fighting styles from the older SC games. I had Talim in mind. I never used her, but I met people who were dissapointed by the fact that she was so different.

Edit: Oh, and thanks for the link. I shall read it very soon.

Hmmm... the ability to choose which moveset you want to use would be a great feature in a sort of Soul Compilation. It could kinda be like the Street Fighter Anniversary thing. They could probably squeeze all three SCs plus SB/SE into an Xbox 360 game. That would be awesome. Throw in an online mode and you'd be set!

As for the true sequel, I am kind of hoping they advance the Soul series to its next iteration and completely overhaul the engine. Not that I don't like the SC engine, as it is the best 3D fighting engine out there right now, but I think some change is needed. Exactly what, I dunno, but I'm sure the folks at Namco can come up with an engine that is different, but still just as (or more) awesome as 8WR. If they don't do that... well... fixing Talim is the first priority on my wishlist. God, she sucks in SC3.

I'd kill too see Supermoves in combat. Meaning a little bar at the bottom of the screen that fills as you take and receive damage, when it fills you can use the energy in the bar to un leash powerful and unique moves.

I'd also kill to see combat that isn't dumbened down. Like moves that require more than pressing two buttons to do to give it more of a challenge and stratigical value to it.

What would I like to see in the new SC game? Hmm, thats a tough one!

How about all of the above!

I didn't pick up on this series till SCII so I don't really know who Li-Long and Hwang are XD I like Taki a lot though, and as long as they leave her as a good character (liked the improvements on her in SCIII lots ^^) and keep Sophitia as an awesome character I'd be fine. I don't really care much for online play since the HD for playstation costs a bit much >.>; I guess I'd just like to see new fighting styles ^^ They keep adding them with new people so that's probably gonna happen anyway lol. I guess I wouldn't mind a team fight either, can't remember if that's on the current one or not. Last, I think it would be awesome if the next one was allowed for sponsored sanctioned tournaments. SCIII isn't an officially sanctioned tourney game cuz it isn't in arcades, but places can sill use it instead of SCII if they want *nods*

I want to create a character with a mix of moves from each character. Sword moves from all characters should be semi-interchangable as an example. I didn't play Soul Cal. 3, so I don't know if they did that in create a character or if it was basically skin swaping.

Online Play.
Exact frame input would be totally ruined for online play, leaving Setsuka useless.

Have I whored this out yet?

I'm not too up-to-speed on the SC series, though I've played a demo of SCII and checked out some of the info. Might have to get the more recent games someday, since I'm also a pretty keen Tekken player...

Something I'd love to see in a game is authentic swordplay. I mean, the kind of fighting where timing matters ('timing' in the sword-fighting sense - range, in other words. 'True time' attacks, where you begin your strike, then move into range and land the blow simultaneously). Weapon binding would be good, too. Defense is every bit as important as offence, but most martial arts games have fairly simple 'block' commands to cover everything. It'd be neat to see that change, especially since it'd give more relevance to shields or offhand weapons in games like the Soul Calibur series. It'd be extremely cool to see a game character fighting with the MS I.33 sword and buckler system, or George Silver's single sword style. Viking axe and shield would rule, also. In fact, any detailed and historically accurate combat style would be good to see. Though the technical details would probably be pretty boring for those who don't practise a weapons-based martial art in real life...

It's pretty much taking one of three premade characters and putting on whatever crap you want them to wear. Except the stuff you give them is severely limited. I seen basketball games with better character creation skills.

There are more than enough disciplines to keep people satisfied, not to mention you can give them the fighting styles of any of the standard characters if you wish. They can't let you sdjust the speed and power of a character, since that would make them terribly unbalanced. The size and shape would cause hit detection problems if they were to be customizable, and bigger characters would be at a disadvantage, as far as gameplay goes. I would have liked to have seen more (and better) voices for them, though.

And they look fine. >_>

Crap, my thread about Final Fantasy VI characters in SC III is gone.

I like that Idea actually. Soul Caliber probably has the closest thing to that in any fighter I've seen though, but its still not close to that. They have quite a few moves to get around blocking, especially with voldo. With Him you can do all sorts of disorienting movements to move around the blocks.

I voted for other. It should have the usual modes such as Arcade, Story, Some sort of quest mode etc but this time it should have a create a fighter mode in which the detail is at an extreme level for example, you could put a bandana on and choose the colour, colour shading, size, thickness etc. Aswell as that, it should have a good quest mode, not the one from SCIII where every character has the same story near enough with a small twists, it should have a story mode which really reveals your selected character's in depth story behind him/her. The last thing could be an online mode(although I dont like online games but it'll be interesting to try) and it should also have a create a stage mode, create a weapon mode, create a move mode, that would be so cool if you could create your own attack, kinda like the way you create a trick in the Tony Hawks games but Soul Calibur style. If none of that happens, I hope greatly that Namco will add some really amazing features this time around but keep in mind SCIV will probably be on the PS3, Revolution and Xbox 360 so the graphics alone will be beatiful to look at alone.

I don't want to see anything that would drastically change the gameplay. Soul Calibur does that right already. New weapons and characters are one thing, but to change the basic gameplay too much would make it a whole new series. Soul Calibur III is much faster than the other games, and the guard impacts have changed a bit, but the basics are the same.
