Who uses it ?

Alive-Cat
04-23-2006, 01:13 PM
Not me. It's just like the Big Red Button that Tony Blair uses all the time. It doesn't REALLY blow up countries, it just makes an explosion noise that he finds very soothing. :)

Who uses it? Tell tale tits, that's who! Oh, an whoever that was who warned one of my posts recently, you're going to Hell.

I use the Warn button. I'm not sure how effective it is though.

The warn button and I have an agreement. We don't use eachother.

The warn button eyes at me ominously, but nothing happens.

There is a warn button?!

Oh yeah so there is!

Loony BoB
04-23-2006, 03:05 PM
I strongly encourage its use when you see something that requires moderation.

I only ever use it if I'm not sure on something and need a second opinion, or if I'm testing it for some reason. :p

I have used it in the past
Now I don't really care to tell the truth

Sometimes we have strange staff conversations with the warn button. That's the only time I would use it.

Meat Puppet
04-23-2006, 04:18 PM
The last time I used it the problem didn't get sorted out until a month or two later, and by then everyone had forgotten about it anyway.

ScottNUMBERS

Kishi used it on me once informing me that Daniel Towns imagery is a bannable offence. :(

Don't think I've used a warn button on any site in the last ten years...

I do.

Wtf is the warn button? No one ever told me there was a warn button. No one even said anything until now! Is this some kind of new addition on the proboard update? or a joke?

Shauna
04-23-2006, 05:00 PM
I use it.

Like I said, it's just like the Big Red Button Tony Blair has. It's only there for explosive soothing-ness. :)

I use it quite regularly to discuss specific items with Staff. :cat:

This is pretty scary. It seems like everyone wants to moderate something. And you lot had me going like you were cool or something

I think I used it once. In 2004, or something.

the warn button has been there for a very long time. sometimes people try to use it to send a private message to the poster but instead it goes to the staff. sometimes people send very vulgar personal attacks using the warn button. when that happens i laugh.

I didnt even realize there was a warn button until it got mentioned in this thread.

Miriel
04-23-2006, 06:25 PM
I used it when that one guy kept posting advertising spam about designer purses. He was besmirching the good name of Chanel. :aimmad:

Also use it to warn a lot of stuff in the FFXI cause I <3 the FFXI forum and it bugs when people post and ask HOW DO I PLAY THIS GAME OFFLINE???

rubah

I wish you guys would use it [as intended] more often as it makes my life easier, mostly because leeza and btv always beat me to the posts ;(

kikimm
04-23-2006, 07:02 PM
I don't use it all that much. But yeah, once in awhile I am really unsure of what to do in a thread, and wanring a post is easier than making a thread about it in staff.

I might use the Warn button once a month. I don't see stuff that needs to be corrected very often, and most of the time I do it's fixed within a few minutes anyway.:p

Cz
04-23-2006, 07:07 PM
I've probably used it three or four times during my time here. Something about it doesn't feel quite right...

Loony BoB
04-23-2006, 07:27 PM
Gotta say, some of the stuff we get through it is pretty funny. :D What eest said has happened from time to time, and when Unne warns something, it's usually pretty amusing too.

Is it like some staff in-joke to spell it wanr or something?

Psychotic
04-23-2006, 07:40 PM
I don't unless someone's advertising a site and it hasn't been caught yet.

I use it occasionally, but due to the speed at which it's taken care of I get the feeling that it would have been sorted out without my input.

Either that or the mighty powers of the 'Wan Ring' are more powerful than I could have ever imagined.

Rengori
04-23-2006, 08:26 PM
I seem to be using it more and more often.

Cz
04-23-2006, 08:34 PM
Maybe you could have a "Warn Count" feature to act as an incentive for people to warn. Plus, it would give BoB a reason to make pie charts. ;)

cloud_doll
04-23-2006, 09:03 PM
does it let you send a message to the staff or does it warn the poster or what?? i dont get it

Leeza
04-23-2006, 09:04 PM
It sends a message to all staff.

Rase
04-23-2006, 09:37 PM
I've used it before, but usually either a) I'm too lazy or b) I don't look look at the threads that need it. I've settled on just raising awareness about it, since it requires little to no work. :)

Same here. ANd Bladen wtf how could you NOT know about this? They say "warn the post instead of spamming blah blah blah" when they close threads. Geeze.

RSL

To people who seem confused about the warn button:

underneath every post there is a little lightning bolt with the word warn beside it. If you see a post where someone is breaking a rule, click that button. You can then enter text into a box explaining why you feel there is something wrong with the post.

What this does is send an email to EVERY staff member with a link to the thread, a link to the individual post, the name of the member warned, the name of the member doing the warning, and the text that you included.

What we do with this depends. If we feel that nothing wrong was done, we just don't do anything. If we agree, we act on it as though we normally would. If you abuse the warn button or are very annoying with it, we might tell you to stop.

I use the Warn Button. As a former staff, it's the closest I could do to feel like a mod. :D

Then again, I think the staff secretly hates me, or some do, I guess.

You're not ignored. No one is ever ignored and every warn is looked at. Sometimes nothing gets done though because the Staff might not think that the problem is as bad a the member reporting it feels that it is, but no report is ignored.

To add to what leeza said, if we don't do anything about a warn you made, you are always free to PM one of us to talk about it. We can explain why we felt no action was necessary.

We definitely don't want you guys to feel like you're ignored, or that you don't matter to us.

I have also gotten PM's from staffers explaining why no action was taken by my warned post. 'Twas nice...:)
