View Full Version : FF12 "bad" ending?; Japanese complaints; and New Game +?

I'm shoving three topics into one here so....

For one, we all know FF12 takes place in Ivalice as does the Tactics games. In FFT they say airships and guns used to be commonplace but in the game's present days it's all kind of buried due to war n' such... As you can see in the trailer airships and guns and mechanical likings are all about in FF12, so do you think the game will have a "bad" ending? As in the world is ravaged by war and turns into crap instead of the party saving everybody? I've been waiting for an RPG to pull that one on me for about ohh 20 years now. I think it would be interesting to see the party not pull out a 100% "happily ever after" ending for once (which only RPGs with mutiple endings, usually good and bad, ever use)...

Also, about these complaints japan is having about the game. I haven't played it so I can't comment on the music, but I've read quite a bit they feel the game is too automated, that you simply set your Gambits and watch it all happen. This was a concern I voiced forever ago (and got yelled at for ~_^)....However, now that I fully understand Gambits I don't see the problem. If you don't want your characters to automatically cast cure when a party member is at 30% or below health, well, uh, then don't put that gambit on them. Personally, I'm going to set up very detailed AI for two characters and have much more direct Menu control over one.

As for the difficulty, this worried me ever since I heard Matsuno was doing the game. I like games to be hard (many felt XenosagaEpisode II was too difficult and I thought it was a breeze). I didn't think FFT was nearly as hard as I was told. With a little effort the game becomes TOO easy. But Vagrant Story was like, whoa...I didn't feel the game was even hard for the sake of being hard but only because there was SO many statistics it became unbalanced and the bosses became freakin impossible. I thought that game was awful (difficulty aside) actually and Famitsu also gave it a perfect score... So is the difficulty really all that and a pair of pants, anyone know?

Also, a few people on this board seem to have played the game. Is there a New Game +? I just loathe spending 60 hours on a game and getting absolute jack for it. It's not necessary but I like it, what can I say!

I wouldn't count on there being a new game+ option as it is not something that main installments to the Final Fantasy series traditionally have. In Final Fantasy XII, you set your own comfortable level of automation, I don't see how anyone could possibly complain about that. I don't know if the game has a happy or unhappy ending but personally I don't care, I trust Square with both halves of that spectrum so I'll be happy with anything.

You're not crazy to have had that much difficulty with Vagrant Story. It is one of the hardest games of its era. The thing is that it was such a fantastic game that it always felt worth trudging through that difficulty to progress the storyline. No game is more deserving of a perfect score, in my opinion.

Ivalice is just a backdrop. The games set within it don't share any actual continuity.

Good to hear, as I'm planning on getting it soon.

I believe the hardest RPG I have ever played was Enix's Seven Saga. Now that's one hard RPG game!!!
