Um, they worked for me. Tifa left me cold but I liked the rest.
The downer for me was the lack of lip synching or english voice over on the extras...

secondly, WAS THAT THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE??? (answer yes imo)
No, but the greatest straight to video movie ever made I might go for.

thirdly, Where can i get the soundtrack???
Um, I would say a site that is blue and is named after a character from FF8, not sure if its allowed by rules though (who am I kidding, it's Laguna:p)

fourthly, WAS THAT THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE??????
See above

and last.....................d'ya think there ll be another one?????????
I hope so.
Not another FF7 movie, or maybe, depends...
But I'd love them to make more movies, from a different FF or.. I dunoo.
It's definitely a genre they can work further in.

Liked it. Wish the whole crew was in it more. I felt like Cid, Yuffie, Barrett, Red XIII, and Cait Sith were more like cameos which was a bit disappointing to me. Especially since the battle they were involved in was one of the highlights of the movie. I would've also liked to see Cloud and company strap on some of that materia but for the story's sake I think I understand why they didn't (course Cloud could've equipped maybe one or two for the final fight :p ) Also, I loved Yazoo's cellphone ring. For those who have seen it, you know exactly what I'm talking about, it was a nice touch to that scene.

I just got done watching and......Well...............For a straight to video release it is not bad. But far from being great at the same time.

You can really tell that the guys who make these games from Square are used to making 50 hour long video games and not 90 minute long movies.

Cloud was put together pretty well (though he kind of looks like he should go try out for Poison and go sing Unskinny Bop along side Brett Michaels and C.C. Deville). But as the movie runs along you start to really become interested in what is going on in his head and the issues that he still has (Cloud was by far the best put together character in this movie).

Tifa on the other hand was not put together very well at all in my opinion. The best scene she had was her first scene in the movie when she was working in the bar before she ever opened her mouth.
Her facial expressions did not seem to jive very well (and they give her lots of close-ups in the movie). And her voice just seemed out of place as well (often times it just seemed that she was talking to a script instead of talking to the person in front of her). Of all the main characters that were in the original game that appeared in this movie Tifa was the worst in my opinion.

I liked Marlene's character. She didn't have to say a whole lot but I thought her voice actress doing her did a good job.

The Turk's all were pretty good in the movie.

All the new characters-This is what I thought really brought down the movie. 80% of the film is spent trying to develop all these new characters that were not in the game and it really shows how inexperienced these guys are in developing characters for non 50 hour long video games. They do a very poor job developing these new characters to where the movie just starts becoming boring because you don't have (nor are developing) any since of attachment to these characters. I think Advent Children would have been alot better if they had just stuck with the characters that were already developed through the game instead of trying to develop new characters in a short 90 minute time frame.

Also another thing that brought it down is that the pace of the film did not seem to flow very well. Many of the scenes just appear choppy and are rather hard to follow. Many times during the film they will be in one area and all of a sudden in the next scene they will be in a totally different place. And I would say to myself "What is going on here. Is this a flashback and the previous scene was present time. Or was the scene before a flashback and this scene is present time". Things like that. Throughout the entire movie the pacing of the scenes were in the range of just being average to simply not very good. And it makes it a challenge to figure out what is going on because of it.

Though the battle scenes were good and I am sure alot of people who watch this will really like that part of the show. Me on the other hand I would have preferred to see more storyline (even if it was choppy) and character interaction than pure action sequences. What made FF7 so good was the character development and the character interactions with eachother. And in Advent Children those two things seem to take a back seat to all the action going on.

When it is all said and done I would give Advent Children a 6/10. Which isn't bad for a straight to video movie. But it is far from aww inspiring at the same time.

I think if these guys from Square are going to be making future movies like this they need to hire people who have experience in making 90 minute to 2hr long shows and let them put together certain aspects of the film. Because Square's infamiliarity in making movies really shows in this film (as it did with Spirits Within) in the pacing of the scenes and the development of all the new characters.

Advent Children is good for a little nostalgia with all the characters you havn't seen in close to ten years. But it definitely does not expand on the game at all.

That sort of self refferrencing sense of humor always works better with a dash of irony. Back when Claremont was writing X-men, the phrase "I got better" was milked pretty heavily, and eventually became something of a joke. just including the ringtone as a bit of fan service lacked. I thought it would be better if the FFVII posse wipes the floor with a group of thugs, only to have the cell phone go off with everyone wondering "WTF is going on here"; and then to have tifa answer the phone and have the cast react with suitable disgust at the in-joke that's been made at their expense.

But, as for the film, Hated It. It's okay the first time you watch it, repeated viewings just sort of expose the films weak points, "wonky plot, silly writing, incredibly contrived action scenes that milk the style of matrix but not the cool factor". While I think FFVII is a respectable game overall (not the greatest, but respectable) Advent Children I could only like If I thought FFVII was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Those that have a unconditional love for the game will appreciate this the most, others should just rent and see if it's their cup of tea.

I have seen both Japanese and English versions of it...

1) The English voice-acting was more effective than I thought it would be. Most characters were cast much as I'd imagine them sounding, particularly Rude and Reno. I was initially concerned to hear the voices of Albedo/Gaignun(Xenosaga) and Raiden(MGS2) would be used for Rude and Reno respectively, but it turned out very well, IMO. I like them very much as VAs, but I was worried there'd be too much familiarity there. As it turns out, I think they were among the best English VAs for this movie.

That said, I'd still probably choose the japanese+subs over the english. The japanese seemed to approach their lines with more feeling overall, and the english mouth-motion synchronization isn't perfect.

2) Greatest film ever made? Not hardly, but I'd agree it is probably the best straight-to-DVD release I can think of. 'Boondock Saints'(North American perspective) is the only real competition I can conceive of. FF7:AC does very well as a one-dimensional action movie and as a faithful expansion of a classic, but does lack somewhat with regard to plot immersion and character development among other things.

That said, I'd also probably nominate this for best 'movie based on a videogame' by a landslide.

3) I got the soundtrack from Amazon.com. It's a little pricey, but very well worth the purchase. I am very impressed with how Uematsu reinvented his work. Advent: One-Winged Angel is simply hawt.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, too. I had imported some months ago, so it wasn't quite so new to me seeing the english version. If you're a fan of FF7, you should definitely look into owning this movie. Not only do you get a source-faithful, impressively choreographed movie, but you'll also get a fairly awesome preview of 'FF7: Dirge of Cerberus', as well.

If you don't like FF7, I think this is still worth a shot to check out. Maybe view a friend's copy or give it a rental. The CG accomplishments and high energy are impressive.

PS - I liked (and want) Yazoo's cell phone ring, also. ^_^

Good point. That would've been a better way to do it.

The movie owns. I saw a download of the Japanese version back in Sept, but on the bigger TV screen, with all the english actors, it was awesome.

Although, Barrett's and Cid's voices weren't quite what I had in mind. I imagined Barrett's to be a little deeper, and likewise with Cid's.

Cloud's, Tifa's (note she was pronounced Tee-fa), Nanaki's, Yuffie's, and Vincent's voices were spot on. Cait Sith's (or Reeve) was great, with the Scottish accent. As well, putting somewhat of a mild UK accent on Nanaki really suited him. As well the tone of his voice made him sound very mature, beyond his years, as is the case with his tribe.

Bayman gives it 2 thumbs up   :D

To add to that, the fight scenes were incredible. I loved cloud's finishing move on Sephiroth. It really showed what a complete pussy Sephy is compared to Cloud.

And seeing Kadaj die ruled. He reminded me of Mr. Burns. And a little girl.
