As a Man United fan, and, more importantly and Englishman, the condition of Rooney's 4th metertasel (spelling...) is a subject close to my heart.

According to the official Man U website, Rooney will be out of action for 6 weeks...and the World Cup starts in 6 weeks from last Saturday.

Tabloids are describing it as the 'End of the world', so is this it for our World Cup dreams?

Remember what happened to David Beckham near the beginning of the last World Cup?

Why is everyone so bothered?
England are more than a one-man team.

I reckon he will get picked with or without the injury, if it's healed enough.

It may not be a one man team, but with Owen probebly out of action, thats out 2 best strikers out!

he'll be out for the group stages at most. 6 weeks from the incident is only a week after the world cup begins. You cannot keep Shrek out for much longer then that.

I probably said all this in the English football thread but here goes. Rooney could be used as an impact substitute in the later stages of the tournament as I think we possess enough quality even without him to qualify from the group stage.

Plan B for when things aren't going well could now be, instead of Crouch-SWP, Rooney-Crouch-SWP. Very nice.

If anything, this could be blessing in disguise if this finally makes Sven start with Carrick in the holding role.
