What is the overall best song you have ever heard? I mean, a song in which everything works. The vocals, the instruments, the writing and the production? The ultimate song in your opinion. For me, Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm is probably the ultimate song. The song is profound, and she really gets it to work. Slave to the Rhythm have perfect balance. What is the overall best song you have ever heard? Don't mind others. This is what you think.

Seems like a lot of threads you make are to praise Miss Jones, but we'll let you off. :)

For me it's probably The Butterfly Effect's "Take It Away". It's such a simple yet brilliant song, and sounds even better if you take it up a few steps.

The first song that came to mind was Bittersweet Symphony. I wouldn't try to argue that it was one of the best songs ever created, but everything seems to fit extremely well. Other than that, Stairway to Heaven and at least a half dozen Beatles songs would qualify.

Yeah, I was thinking Stairway to Heaven.
It's overplayed and everyone's pretty much sick of it, but when I first heard it, I was blown away by it. I couldn't believe how great it was.

I have a live video recording of "Amazon (Let This Be a Voice)" by John Denver, featuring Jim Horn on tin-flute and James Burton on electric guitar. I get pumped every time I listen to it.

Seriously though, I cannot for the life of me put my finger on one ultimate song. There are just so many that I love.

Some that could qualify are:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Jeremy - Pearl Jam
Give to Fly - Pearl Jam
Master of Puppets - Metallica

ehn........I dunno.....there's more, but I'm not about to list every song that I enjoy to that extent
