Although they have jumped leaps and bounds over the past several years in terms of making characters overall bodies look more realistic. But when the camera focuses in on a characters face you realize how far away these models are from looking life-like.

Many times when cameras focus in on characters faces the expressions seem dull and lifeless alot of times. And while their is good lip movement there is virtually no cheek movement to go along with it (which often makes the close-ups look pretty fake).

So will the ps3 be able to fix this problem with facial close-ups of the characters that the ps2 graphic engine seemed to have. Or will facial expressions probably look awkward for the ps3 games as it did for the ps2 games.

Because I think it kind of made it a bit more difficult to get into the characters while you were playing the game when they had so many facial close-ups during the games but yet the facial expressions on the characters just appeared awkward.

I don't think he's talking about CGs, you might as well post pictures from The Spirits Within.

Watch the fifteen-minute MGS4 trailer. It's comprised of real-time graphics, and there's plenty of cheek movement going on.

Yes I was wasn't talking about how characters facial expressions look when they are just standing there saying nothing. I was talking about how awkward many of the facial expressions look on ps2 games while characters are speaking their lines.

I felt that if you can tell a character's facial expression just from looking at them it was done. Thank you, MGS2.

Oblivion's facial expressions are pretty damn good-looking

Half-life 2. Seriously.

Quoted for truth. I've never seen facial animations look more fluid and natural than in that game. Hopefully companies can start to not only meet the standard it set, but start raising the bar a little more.

On this subject, I heard that MGS4 was supposed to have an in-game facial expressions. I heard that in the game there wouldn't be audio or visual aids to tell if you've been spotted (explination points, question marks, like in the older games) you were supposed to tell by the enemy personel's facial expressions and the things that they say for if they notice your presence or not.
