One of my home computers (not this one obviously) has got a virus and my parents haven't the faintest idea how to get rid of it. Its called the alemod virus and it overwrites win init (I think that's right) files which are system files. This isn't the first time the computer has got the virus but we don't want to send it to the shop again. Any suggestions?

Do you have virus protection on your computer? If not, I recommend downloading for free AVG Virus protection (http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/download/AVG_Antivirus.html). Have it scan your computer and see if it will remove the alemod trojan.

I did a google search of this trojan, and it seems to be about a year old. See if you can find any online help from one of those sites to see if they have any step-by-step process of removing it manually. Other than that, this seems to be right up the ally for Sam and clout :p

If you pass it my way, I'll be saying reformat reinstall, especially if it's playing with system files :p

Anyway, you can try this link (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.alemod.html) if you really want - you can replace steps 2 and 3 of the removal instructions with whatever virus scanner you want to use :p
