This is more of a personal experience thread than just a counter to rubah's thread (though it is also that).

What's the longest you've ever gone without sleeping? What methods did you use to keep you awake during that time?

For me, it's about 27 hours (from 9 AM yesterday morning to noon today). During that time, I wasted time around the house, picked up a corsage, ate things, went to prom, played poker, jumped on a trampoline, watched Dane Cook and Robin Williams, and had someone sleep on top of me in a not too comfortable position for me to sleep in. I'm still hungover from it, because I've only gotten 3 hours of sleep since.

about 46 hours I think. I don't think I got any sleep on my first night in New York when I was on a school trip.

I usually get atleast 2-3 hours sleep at Sleepovers(I find it SO hard sleeping in places not my own), but this one time, I didn't. Im almost sure of it. I just listened to my Music and Played my DS.

The next day I looked and felt like a Zombie, so thats probably the longest Ive stayed awake. I need my sleep

Nearly forty hours, I think. ._. I woke up really early and went to a sleepover at which I didn't sleep at all, and then went to sleep quite late the next day. It's weird, if you stay awake for long enough you just stop being tired.

As to how I stayed awake that long... I had quite a few glasses of Coke with instant coffee stirred into it. And sugar. Oh, god, I feel sick just thinking about it.

The least amount of sleep i've ever gotton was 4 hours. This summer i will accomplish staying awake for a full 24 hours though.

About 24. I plan on trying the "having no sleep for three days or more will make you go literally insane" theory this summer.

From 7am to 11pm the next day.....something like that. It was when I went to Egypt

4 nights I went without sleep! And I wasn't using any methods to keep me awake, I just couldn't sleep, and wasn't concerned enough about it to do something to make myself sleep.

30 hours. But that was a task I had to complete and I wouldn't have done it otherwise, or ever again for that matter.

Four days. I did it as an experiment to see what would happen to me without sleep. My hypothesis was that provided that I kept activity down to a minimum during the evening then my brain should be able to shut down enough to trick it into sleeping. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. On more than one occassion I would drop off for about five minutes, and by the fourth day I was very sick indeed. Not on death's door, but I did sleep for a day and a half after the "experiment" was over. On the last day I was hallucinating, hadn't even in two days, and I couldn't see or speak properly.

I didn't have any trouble like that.

less than a day almost certainly.

Ouch!

Four or five days, I can't remember. I attribute it to hypo-mania. I can't do it normally, nor would I want to.

About 26 hours. I had to take a friend to a doctor's appointment two hours from where we live and got up a five am...Later that day, my friend calls me and says that I am obligated to attend her party in which we stayed up till about 7 am and were very inebriated....:D

Roughly about 28 hours. It was tradition for my dance team to "kidnap" the new dancers as part of their initiation. So all th returning members of the team would stay up for a little more than a day to carry out the whole kidnapping/initation thing.

I remember only getting 30 minutes of sleep in a 72 hour period, because I was working this temporary security job. I quit before the span I was supposed to be there was up because my body and my brain couldn't take it any longer.

I disagree. Eating and just sitting around thinking are the worst things you can do to help stay awake.

I didn't say "eat and sit around all day."

you did say thinking though^_^

Eating pretzels on long car trips is pretty good for staying awake. We drove all the way from southern Louisiana to north-west Arkansas overnight like that once!

Probably nothing more than something between 24 and 36 hours, when Dan and co were around and we just didn't bother going to be on one of the nights, I think it was the first one.

I don't really have any desire to not sleep. It only makes me feel 'ugh' and that's not fun.

59 hours in a contest.....I lost. My cusin got 84 hours.....he was on crystal method so that is cheating in my book.

It was in high school summer time back when Golden Eye first came out. We played that and Mario Cart for the 64 the entire time, good ole days.
