Favourite Irish Song?

What's your favourite Irish song? There are so many wonderful songs to choose from. Mine is either "On Raglan Road" or "Lord Franklin." I also qutie enjoy "Molly Malone" and so many others. So what's your favourite Irish song?

"Athen Rye" always brings a tear to my eye, Im not sure who original sung it, but every St Paddys day or when we're celebrating new year back home in Westport, we always sing this. And "The Irish rover", "Dirty old town", and of course "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues :D "Fairytale of New York" gets played every Christmas in our house. Its a tradition!

Fairytale of New York is great. I don't know of specific Irish songs in general (I mean, what are you classing as Irish? U2? :p), but when it comes down to the more traditional Irish style of music, Manny introduced me to something like Loreena McKinnet (I forget the exact name) and her stuff is pretty.

Yeah, Loreena Mckennitt. If U2 come into it, then "With Or Without You" and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" can get thrown in there!

I'm familiar with all of those songs, and I've heard them quite a bit. There's quite an Irish presence (going back several generations, when settlers first came here) here in Newfoundland. Irish music is quite popular here, and it always has been.

Loreena Mckennit is great too, and she's actually Canadian. Her song the Mummer's Dance was inspired by a visit to Newfoundland. Another one of her beautiful ballads I enjoy is "Stolen Child".

I love all irish songs...well, not all, but a fair few. Ya wouldnt know most of them, they're local groups.
But the pouges are the bets for Trad Rock. In addition to the above, Streams of Whiskey(try singing the chorus on the way down the pub), Body of an American, Thousands are Sailing(always brings a tear to my eye) and Sally McLennane...as well as pretty much every other song they did. And any decent voice singing The Soldiers Song is good to me.

That is the greatest party song ever. I don't know why, but it has some kind of power over drunk people, including myself I might add :)

Anyway, I like the general sound of traditional Irish songs. One of my friends is in a band that is called "Almost Irish" and they play traditional Irish folk songs and such. Personally I think U2 is a good band.
