I just got an idea, inspired from battle of the guitarists thread.
When it comes to talent who wins out of Dave Lombardo and Lars Ulrich.

I have to go with Dave, I don't really like Lars Ulrich very much, some of the speeds Dave has gotten to are incredible. I enjoy his drum solos and he's pretty nifty.

Lombardo knows how to work a double bass drum, therefore my vote goes to him.

Dave Lombardo is one of the fastest drummers alive, he's from Slayer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQpIpy1xU74&search=Dave%20Lombardo example of his skills. You can see that to him is just a little jam session.

i think after finding out who he was i wish bladen had added more choices to his poll :( :choc:

Dave Lombardo - http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/DaveLombardo.html

I'll give it to Dave since I just have to admit he's much more talent. If Metal drumming is your thing then he's the clear winner here. I personally find metal drumming (of this variety anyway) just plain boring in general though.

Edit:Looks like me and Bladen posted the same video from different sources. This is what I get for getting up in the middle of my post to partake in some birthday cake.

Neither.

Dave Lombardo and Lars Ulrich are good, but drummers like Buddy Rich, Dave (http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/DaveWecklnaturalsolo.html) Weckl (http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/davewecklsalsa.html),
Virgil Donati (http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/VirgilDonati2.html), and Vinnie Colaiuta (http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/vinniecolaiutaWB.html) are where it's at.

Keith Moon is from The Who, isn't he? John Bonham = :D

Lars cannot go even half as fast as Dave, if you listen to Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood the drum solos there slay ass. I cannot find any more live vids of dave's solos on youtube.

Lombardo can't last as long as Lars:

...And Justice For All (9minutes+). I gave the link in my previous post, so there's the proof. Going overly fast is boring, just like perducci said, a lot of metal drumming is boring because of how predictable(fast) and unoriginal it is from band to band, some do stand out, mostly in the 80s, early 90s period. Lombardo may be fast, I give him that, but it isn't that impressive(to me).

If you watched him perform Battery for Metallica at Download 2004, you'll see the drumming got the rest of the band's spirits up. And Justice For All maybe a long song but if you listen to the drumming it only gets fast in the last 4 minutes. Lombardo can use doublr bass, he's just a more skilled drummer then Lars Ulrich. You see he does more drum solos then Lars. In Binge and Purge Lars was knacked after his hillarious drum duel with James Hetfield. He can only go ultra fast for less then a minute.

Saying Lombardo cannot last as long as Ulrich is a bit snotty in a way, don't take it personally, it's only just a comment. Lombardo can last at higher speeds then Ulrich can. Even when he goes slow he's lasted longer. Venom, name some songs where Lombardo is pretty slow but melodic.

This is just Lombardo vs Ulrich, no one else, just make a seperate thread for those other dudes, I never added other poll options because there was no need, this is just a contest between 2 drummers. Lombardo is also a very powerful and creative drummer, more then that of Ulrich himself. He's also a skilled Jazz drummer as seen in his other bands like Fanotomas (typo) and Grip Inc.

Hey you, don't you catch the disease. Get back to the debate, lol.
Lombardo has went into other areas of drumming aswell as Heavy/Thrash Metal. His double bass and aggressive kicking are amazing. Just don't put him into football.

C'mon man, Lombardo missed SO MANY beats in Battery:laugh: man, what a joke. He may great at double bass, but the a drum kit isn't made JUST of double bass drums or is it?

It ain't 'bout how fast you play, but how you play.

And you say you've seen a song where Lombardo has lasted longer? what's the name of the song?

And i don't know why you keep insisting and drooling over drum solos, they're not all that surprising/amazing. Lombardo is great playing 3 minute fast songs, and Lars is good at playing both fast and medium tempo songs, though he's loosing in the fast department.

It REALLY depends on what kind of style you like. Bladen, look I don't want Leeza to come here again and do the same thing she did on the other thread, so just respect my opinion and let's leave it at that.

I NEVER quoted your opinion in an attempt to prove you wrong or anything, I gave my reply to the thread and that's it, you're the one who keeps challeging in every opinion I make.

Shoden

You're missing the point of the thread, DK. This is to determine who is better out of Lombardo and Ulrich. Basically we're on topic, don't take a tantrum man, I'm just trying to get the factual points across, you reply to them, say something else and I have to end up delivering more points. But not everything I say is fact, don't make that mistake, alright. Just calm down, do some reading and research on Lombardo. Alot of Slayer songs actually last longer then 4 minutes. Hell Awaits's title song lasts 6 minutes and has some of Lombardo's best traits in it.

Lombardo wasn't used to going that slow for battery though, look at his face, he wasn't even trying. I enjoyed Joey Jordison and For whom the bell tolls though. Lars maybe a massive asshole but he is an amazing drummer, Fight Fire with Fire was one of his best songs. Lombardo just kicks his ass, simple as. Damn, I scared him away.

ran away? pffft! you're funny. I just gave my opinions on things which I still believe are true, you wanna keep arguing, get a mirror and do so. And if there's someone taking it seriously here, it's you. You're the one replying to my EVERY post.:) :) :)

Shoden

That isn't the point. Once again you have failed to see the point in this thread. If you don't want to argue, which is what the thread is basically about then fine, bugger off and do something else. Met? Geez, no way. He's a spoilt little brat who got Metallica running through Daddy's money. Spoilt little rich boy. He's worse though, ask anyone else here, I bet some of them would like to say some of the other things that make him a bad person. What do you think made Mustaine quit? Actually he was kicked out because he stole James's booze and party spotlight, but that's my theory.

If you're going to start with those type of posts then just stop will ya, please, this thread is about who is the better drummer out of Dave Lombardo and Lars Ulrich, I've made points, you made points, you then try to turn this thread into what happened to the escape from the studio 06 thread. Just zip it alright, if you want to keep posting just keep on the topic, I don't want this thread to get closed because it's going off topic, just stop it alright. To the CK's, I'm just trying to get the point of the topic to DK, don't need to use the warn button yet.

This thread sounds like just conversation to me. If that's all you're going to do, then take it to IMs or PMs.

Everyone: stay on topic, which means not talking about other drummers. We all know there are other drummers, but this thread is not about them.

Shoden

It's not solely conversation Leeza, just trying to get some names of Slayer songs where Dave Lombardo is slow and melodic instead of his usual Fast and fuirous badass self. Yeah, I noticed that other drummers are mentioned, hasn't bothered me very much. but I should of made more options to please them, can't help that now.
