ive been on this guy for some time now. his tidal wave does about 700 damage and he sometimes uses it 2 or 3 times in a row. id be fine if that attack wasnt so powerful. so is there a place where i can get something to protect my characters from the attack like some sort of water ring? if not, does anyone have a good strategy to beat him. i have one or two but im not sure if theyll work. help.

I could've sworn you could buy them in mirage, but I looked and couldn't find them:(
(not that I looked very closely mind you)

They're definitely sold in Mirage.

leviathan was hard but I was lucky but shell does make the damage go lower(and coral ring but I never used it). If i can remember right I had one sorcerer, one white mage, one black mage, and one time mage. I used haste on the white mage so for speedy recovery from it and I used shell on everybody then used haste on everyone and then infused flare with my enchanters and attacked him.oh and u need to master ninja to get the two swords ability so u can have two enchanters equipped) if what I told u dosen't work than I surely must not remember what i did to defeat him.

but wheeeeeeeeeeeeere kishi:( I'm tired of exploring!
I'm still fond of the 'mime away with bahamut' method of defeating leviathan. but then miming bahamut pretty much works for anything really
[edit- oh duh, there in mirage. fien]

Exploring Mirage is one of the best parts of the game, Allison.

Coral Rings, ftw. You can get alot of Gil from that Phoenix Tower, I recall. Still, you can just get one for one character to survive and kill him, I'd suppose.

i never thought of using shell. ill try that out. i was also thinking of changing job classes to ones with higher HP and using most of the same abilities. if not ill look harder in mirage. i looked there earlier but still couldnt find coral rings.

i just beat leviathan by casting haste 2 and shell on everyone. if minimalized damage from tidal wave which was my main problem. im not sure if many people know this but ive just discovered that leviathan is a completely optional boss (or at least he is optional on the anthologies version.). to skip the fight you just have to walk to the bottome of the screen without pressing X on leviathan. but id have felt cheap for doing that so i fought leviathan anyway. in mirage village to get coral rings and other good rings you need to go into the armour shop. then press X on the box near the entrance. it will open up a secret passage that leads to a shop with the expensive rings.

Technically speaking Leviathan is a side boss, in the same vein as Bahamut, Gogo et al. Most players don't realise this fact and assume he's a must-fight boss.

Not that it helps much now.... But he has a major weakness to Bolt. So either cast it on 2-swords and use Sshot for an instant kill, or hold a Bolt rod and reflect Bolt3 off your entire party for an insane ammount of damage.
Coral rings are handy for shinryu so you'll want to buy at least a couple even if you don't really need them for this battle

no true final fantasy player would skip a fight with Leviathan. He's not that tough, especially with a coral ring or two.

most of the third world in FF5 is optional. the second you get the airship i think you can go to the N-zone. and there are some weapons in the N-zone that are better than the sealed weapons.

actually the sealed weapons are in the n-zone but not all of them I think.

No, all the sealed weapons are in that castle which the name of it escapes me at the moment. It's just some weapons you find in the N-Zone are more powerful the sealed ones
