Yeah, I usually just say "Hello." If I'm in a particularly good mood, I'll say "Hey." or "What the hell do you want (and an implied >=( )" or maybe just "WHAT"

I made that mistake once.... I had just broken up with an Ex, after 5 calls.

The next one came, I finally broke and said "The S.M.U.R.F did you want!?" ... it was my mum.

I answer it depending on who it is (I'm gonna use my home phone, since no one ever rings me on my mobile). I look at the Caller ID, first. If it is no one I know, or a private number, I will answer it with "Hello, Mathew speaking." If it is somone I know (family, friends) I will answer it with "Hi ________." And finally, if it is one of my good friends, I will answer it with "We don't want any", hang up, and call them back. I love doing that.

I say "Hello?" or "WHAT?"

Shoeberto
06-02-2006, 06:09 AM
I've done quite a few very impatient "HELLO?!"s in my time, generally after a rapid succession of telemarketers and hangups that make me want to yank the cord out of the wall, but I don't think I've done a "WHAT?!" yet. Generally by the time I lose my patience, it's my mom or grandma or something calling, and I'd feel wretched if I greeted them with a "WHAT?!" So I try and keep it civil when answering. If I'm absolutely patienceless, I'll just not answer at all and think of the best way to simultaneously destroy all telephones in the world.

Usually "Hello?" or an impatient "What?!"

People get worried if they are greeted with silence.

I don't like it when people waste my time on silly things like socializing.

If its someone I want to talk to or havent heard from in awhile, Im like "Hi!" very cheepy and happy. However, if its someone Im not happy with its a dull "Hello."

various greetings of "hello", but different tones. i curse my brother whenever he calls for like the fourth time in a row, xD...

Depends on who's calling me. If it's someone at home calling me, I normally say Hello Home! And wait for the person to identify themselves before actually greeting them.

If it's Matt, normally I say "Hello darling" but I also say that to most other people who call me.

Sometimes if it's my friend/formerroommate Laura I shout inane things and hang up, but that's because she'll laugh really hard.

If it's an unknown number, I normally don't pick up xD

I think I might actually say "Hey" every time. :p

So, soon after I posted in this thread, someone with a restricted ID called me. Do any of you have my number? xD

Mirage
06-03-2006, 02:46 AM
I usually say "Hi." and then go straight on to what I called for. I rarely introduce myself, cause they can see it's me before they pick up. Except when I don't call to another mbile phone, but that's rare.

If it's a friend of mine, I say "Moi!", "No moro!" or "Joo hei!" which mean something like "Hello!", "Well hiya there!" or "Yeah, hi!" If it's one of my family members, I say "Joo?" ("Yeah?") if I'm in a good mood, or I say "Noh?" ("Huh?"), where the tone gets more aggressive if I'm on a bad mood. :p If it's an unknown number, I usually say "Haloo?" ("Hello?"), and if it's someone important like my employer in my summerjob, I answer with my whole name. If someone from my family or one of my friends calls me when I'm sleeping, I answer "Huomenta..." ("Good morning..."), and if it's my old physics teacher, I answer with "Tervehdys!" ("Greetings!")

I also remember when a few friends called me and they weren't finding the way to where I live, so I answered them "Joo, missä te nyt ootte?" ("Yeah, where are you now?") And I think I've also answered a phone call by saying "Oota hetki, mun akku loppuu kohta!" ("Hang on a sec, my battery's almost dead!") I'm sure I could come up with some more, but maybe that's the most frequent ones I use. :p
