The reason you cant rename your characters in X-2 is because the voice actors adress your characters by there inative name, it would sound weird if you renamed your character Leena and she was adressed as Yuna wouldnt it?

Don't blame yourself, it's pretty natural :D I've never bothered changing pets name, but it looks like this Dark Messenger's idea is a good one for Sh*t! too :p

I personally like YuRiPa in the Japanese version. IMO better than YRP. Sounds more like a Charlie's Angels wannabe. :mog:

Anyway, you can rename the pets by talking to Barkeep in Chapter 5.
