I believe I am in the Bevelle temple, which is extremely hard to get out of by the way, and am wondering how far I am in FFX - excluding sidequests obviously.

Does anyone have any tips to get out of Bevelle while we're at it?

Gagazet, Zanarkand, Sin

Halfway through the game. To get out of Bevelle, the easiet thing to do is to turn off the PS2 and walk out of the room. Anyways, it depends on where you are in Bevelle; saying "I'm in Bevelle" isn't exactly smattering of detail.

If you just began the siege, then fight your way through the enemy. (Dark attack, Smoke Bombs)
If you are in the cloister of trials, figure out the puzzle.
If you are in Via Purifico, then use Pheonix Downs on Evrae Altana, or use Yuna's summoning to guide her way out of it.
If you are at the battle with Seymour, level a little bit on the Highbridge, and then fight Seymour. Reflect or Shell are good ideas.

The cloister of trials in Bevelle can be evil (First time = hour and a half!,with a guide lol) and first time id definitely recommend a guide. see gamefaqs.com for one.

Sorry for being so vague on Bevelle: I am in the cloister of trials and will probably take your advice on using a guide. I tried to navigate my way through there but my eyes were extremely painful and it was just extremely tedious.

Half way through the game? Gr... I've already been playing for 20 hours!

(Anyone else think RPG's are slightly too long?!)

No, because if you blow it out of proportion and play absolutely everything you can get, you get what you paid for. If anything, the main game itself is too short.

It can be very hard to see inside of the Cloister of Trials, and despite the darkness, the lights are very bright and flashy; causes headaches. A guide is the best idea, even I didn't get out of there without a guide, and even then, it took me an hour to do it.

Yeah, the trials of Bevelle is a pain. I used a guide for that one too. Wouldn't want to miss a destruction sphere.
