i'm probably being stupid, but i've seen this EVERYWHERE.

"I Cried Aloud With Mirth and Merriment."

What is that supposed to mean and why is everyone saying it?

OH WAIT! You're not a noob! I can tell you! :D There used to be a filter, and trying to say lol resulted in I cried aloud with mirth and merriment. It's gone now, but when they got rid of the filter, everyone still wanted it. So the mods made lol with a . at the end the new lol filter.

...Am I seeing things or did that mage/wizard just change to a green pig. I cried aloud with mirth and merriment.

EDIT: It's not gone...the filter is still there for me...

EDIT 2:Atleast it's better than those skull censors.

Dude, that happens everytime I learn a new word. Or when I first started liking mini coopers. Suddenly they're everywhere!

You just weren't noticing them before.

We have a few random word filters, mostly for the entertainment of Mr Fishman and Hunter S Thompson.

"l</>ol." filters to "lol."
"Chu</>ck Norris" filters to "Chuck Norris".
a couple of inappropriate words filter into "/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif".
the f-word filters into "fuck".
"xD" filters into "I am The Man and I suck."

there may be some others. Admins can change them and look at the list.

The most useful filter there is is the one that turns Ryu</>ukishi into Ryűkishi.

Also, a lot of the filters don't work in the Simplified Style, so this thread reads pretty funny when you're using that one. I suppose I'll go fix that now, at lesat for "lo</>l." - although it won't be the same as the whole merriment thing got annoying for me a while ago.
