Hello everyone. I was hoping that someone could help me with finding the items necessary to upgrading weapons. I cannot figure out where to get things like the screw, etc... Of course, this is my first time playing and I've only reached Timber, so maybe they don't show up yet, but that doesn't make sense to me as I've already encountered a junk shop.

Thanks everyone

P.S. Is the pocketstation really worth trying to find now too?

Isn't there a beastiary on this site? Well, Gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com) is bound to have what you're looking for, although I wouldn't be surprised if someone here knows what monsters drop what.

I wouldn't say so. Unless you have the PC Version, which has this separate program, the Chocobo thing is just a minigame. It wouldn't be worth it to spend money importing a Pocket Station.

You can find the items needed to upgrade your weapons in magazines called Weapons Monthly. You get the first issue by defeating Elvoret (the big, purple/pink bird at the top of the Dollet communications tower). There are a total of 5 issues of Weapons Monthly available in the game. Each can be found in different places as you progress in the storyline. Of course, these magazines don't tell you where the required items are found.

You don't even need those magazines if you know what you need. You also do not have to have read a specific issue of Weapons Monthly to upgrade. The only things you need to be able to upgrade your weapons are the items needed and enough Gil. Here is a pretty good Weapon Upgrading Guide (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/final_fantasy_viii_na_weapon_upgrade.txt).

Since I am too lazy to find a guide that lists the locations of the Weapons Monthly magazines, I'll just tell you myself:

March - defeat Elvoret
April - on the desk in Squall's new dorm. after you meet with Quistis
May - Deling City sewers
June - defeat BGH521F2 (big, blue iron clad) at the Missile Base
July - in the Balamb Garden Training Center on Disk 3
August - south of the gargoyle statue in Trabia Garden
Special - at the Lunatic Pandora Reaserch Laboratory
You can buy all of these at the Esthar Book Shop if you have Tonberry's Familiar ability.

You can either steal or win screws from Geezards outside Deling City. They look like brown lizards.

The Pocketstation is something that is sold in Japan, and it has something to do with the Chocobo World. It's not important, since you would have to go through a tremendous amount of work just to get one, and they probably wouldn't work with the American Playstation models anyway.

The link for that list was broken, I was wondering if you might know of another site? If nothing else, could you just tell me if it is a matter of stealing them, finding them, or buying them?

Or, as found on the Eyes on final Fantasy frontsite:

http://www.eyesonff.com/ff8/

Most things you need should be here. If not, try gamefaqs as others said.

My link works fine for me. If you can't get it to work, then right click it, and hit Properties. Then highlight its entire address, press Ctrl+C, and then open a new browser window and hit Ctrl+V in the address bar. Then press enter. This will work.

You mostly have to steal/win them and mod Cards into items using Quezacotl's Card Mod ability to get what you are looking for. Sometimes further refinement is needed. Like when you refine 10 Elnoyle cards into 1 Energy Crystal, then you need to refine the Energy Crystal into 10 Pulse Ammo with Ifrit's Ammo Refine ability. You can also buy some items. For example, you can buy Force Armlets from the Esthar Pet Shop if you have Tonberry's Familiar ability learned. You need a Force Armlet for Rinoa's ultimate weapon, the Shooting Star.

Most items needed for upgrading can be obtained by stealing or winning. Modding cards is much easier and quicker at times though. So play lots of cards.

The link was broken because GFAQs doesn't let you link directly to their guides. You need to copy and paste the entire url into your browser.
