Umm... what?

EDIT: Are you talking about the ringtone that adults can't hear? I don't know if its use would fall under good or evil...it's interesting to say the least.

I'm guessing it's to do with certain frequencies; you see when we are born our frequency hearing range is from 20hz to 20,000hz. This gap gets reduced more and more as we grow older (as if our hearing is getting worn in).

So I'm guessing that at the age of 20, there are certain frequencies you can't hear as well as someone who's five years younger. Although I still don't see how this works properly, as there'd be a lot of exceptions...

Edit: BTW, I don't really see what you gain from having someone over the age of 20, not hearing your ring tone. If you were so desperate you could just put it on silent...

well its really dumfounded to me i mean wouldent it be better to just put it on vibrate???

That's exactly what this is. I read about it like a month ago.

It's based on a technology that's supposed to keep teens from loitering, by bombarding them with this high frequency, but kids just got smart and started recording and distributing it as a ringtone so they could use it during school hours.

Um.
What's wrong with 'silent' or 'vibrate'?
People are getting desperate. Is there an article or something about this on the Internet?

You mean like that alarm that was adding onto someones house? I saw that on the news. Kids avoided the house as it absoloutly murdered their ears whereas it didn't effect adults.

Its now on mobile phones? Oh man. Thats LAME.

I heard about that, but I never actually heard the noise. I want to hear, I'm very curious. :D

I'm too scared to text in class, anyways. Unless I'm in the back and we're watching a movie, or the teachers cool. Otherwise .. no.

It's just a high pitched noise. Imagine when you have to take the ear examinations to test your hearing, and the higher sounds are basically the new ringtone. Apparently, adults can't hear it, as has been said.

What if a teacher did hear it?
Bahaha, busted.
Then it'd be an epidemic like those jelly bracelets. :eep:

Hmm. Is that that one where it goes from a low-pitched noise to a high-pitched noise that I hear at college? No, it can't be. I remember a fourty-year-old teacher reacting to that.

If theres one thing that pisses me off severely, it's those smurfing ringtones they sell on TV.

That only makes ense to Willy Wonka. And, at the possibilty of being drowned in chocolate, we should just agree with him.

I'm 21 and I had absolutely no problems hearing that ringtone. I could hear as far as up to 19000 Hz when I was 16 though <,<.

...I'll stick to vibrate, thanks. This whole thing is probably going to get annoying over the years.

I'm gonna giggle when people are using it for years and one day they realize they've missed fourteen calls because they didn't hear it ring.

From the limited experience I've had of this, it actually seems to work. I don't see any obvious advantages over using the vibrate function, though.

chii
06-20-2006, 09:57 PM
well you may need it in a situation like a lokdown or stuff not stupid stuff like texing people

Mirage

You can also use it as a HIGH FREQUENCY GLASS-BREAKER, like in James Bond.

o_O
06-20-2006, 11:37 PM
Only if the frequency of the ringtone is a harmonic of the fundamental frequency of the glass though. :p
