Cloud wins my vote. Not for superficial reasons, but for the way he confronted and overcame the nasty secrets from his past - the strength that empowered him to keep going in the face of crippling self-doubts, when it looked like the world might truly be done for. He's no fearless immortal, rather a person with very human weaknesses and flaws who nonetheless does what has to be done in order to protect the lives of others.
