That scene... was really weird and even made me feel awkward, but I love the whole Yuna Tidus thing, so I let it slide.

It's what finalized my hatred for Tidus. And Yuna. And almost the game, but I still love the game. I just try to block that scene out. Worst ever. In gaming history.

Erm... what laughing scene? I recall reading a mentioning of this scene in a magazine recently (cant remember why) but i can't remember it. when was it?

Captain Maxx Power
06-28-2006, 11:00 AM
Kinda stupid scene really, but it did have a point. It's irony is doubled later on in the game when Tidus and Yuna's roles are effectively switched i.e. he's the one who knows he's going to die rather than her.

If it is the one I am thinking of: it was bloody awful. One of the main reasons why I was against voice-actors. Why is it that something like Half life 2, Monkey Island, MGS, or Warcraft can have excellent voice acting, and Final Fantasy cannot? RAWR.

06-28-2006, 12:22 PM
Yeah, but what Maxx Power was saying is that its ironic because Tidus was protecting Yuna, who was going to die and didnt know of his own fate. Which instead of him dying, turned out to be him being a dream and not real. Which could be seen as in a sense dying away because dreams dont last.

gabrielo2580
06-28-2006, 12:29 PM
aww man i thought u were gonna say something else which wulda worked way better to ur advantage

if u think about it tidus actually killed himself.. because after he killed sin dream zanarkand dissapeared and tidus was part of dream zanarkand. so maxx is right because he killed himself to save yuna from having to do the final summoning killing herself

~SapphireStar~

What, this isnt a competition here. There is no advantage over anything. Its opinions. And Im sticking with what I said as my opinion in this.

And will you make up your mind. One minute you disagree with Maxx and the next you agree with him.

gabrielo2580
06-28-2006, 12:41 PM
hes right but in a way hes kinda wrong

tidus did give up his life for yuna im just saying i dont believe he did because if yuna died she wuld have given up more because tidus never was alive in the first place he was only a dream so him dying isnt much of a sacrufice.

so in my opinion what yuna was willing to giv up was more than tidus so i think tidus's sacrafice doesnt equal up to yunas

back on topic:

could'nt they at least tried to make the laugh sound a little more sane or human.. they sounded like retarded seaguls

IceAngel
06-28-2006, 02:58 PM
I thought they were meant to sound demented and strange because it was forced laughter. After the 'forced' laughter they started laugh ~ if I remember rightly. Thats because they knew they looked stupid. Wakka said afterwards... well I can't remember what he said but I thought "yea I know what you mean".

Dell
06-28-2006, 02:59 PM
They were faking their laugh. In heart, Yuna just want Tidus to become the fayth and Tidus just want Yuna to die. I remember my mom complain about the scene. Awful. I shut my PS2 down right after scene (Of course, I already save it, I don't want to watch that scene again and ever)

I thought it was awkward like that time I asked that person out.

I also didn't know how to react. I kinda wanted to shut it off, I thought laughing with them might be a good idea, but mostly I just stared in horror. Really uncomfortable.

:D Sounds familiar. I thought the scene was quite awkward, and the voice acting wasn't too convincing there. However, that scene does have some depth too. Tidus and Yuna are feeling really down there, and they're trying to smile and laugh out lout even if it's faked, and then they end up laughing and smiling for real, and then it doesn't sound as fake anymore.

I remember doing something similar around last Christmas. I saw two friends of mine who I hadn't seen for several months, and then we had to say goodbyes again. Another friend drove all of us home, and during the way, one of the friends told us to laugh out loud whenever the car's CD player started to play the songs choppily (it does so quite frequently). We were faking our laughing first, but after a while, we were all really laughing and almost holding our stomaches. :)

I didn't think anything of it, really. It's not like the plot or characters had been particularly interesting up to that point, so it was just another scene to me. I was nothing but surprised when it turned out to be one of the most talked-about scenes in the game.

Silly, really.

It was fine, but if I remember the teeth/mouths looked a bit twisted when they laughed.

Just because one scene embarrasses someone doesn't mean the full game does.

Auron: No! Now is the time to choose! You ca...

I liked that scene. At first I laughed cause I thought they were really bad at laughing until they laughed normally later. Then I knew that Yuna was just trying to cheer Tidus up so it was heartwarming but nothing to cry over.
None of the poll options really fit my opinion but I put, "I wish the scene was with Auron and Kimari," because I thought that would be funnier.

I'm going through the game again and I just got out of Luca.
Is it me, or is Tidus looking at Yuna's chest while they talk?

IceAngel
07-10-2006, 10:39 PM
Haha. I think he does most of the time. Yuna's chest or Lulu's if he's not talking to Yuna.

NorthernChaosGod
07-11-2006, 05:18 AM
I really don't see the big fuss over it. Obviously those aren't their real laughs as the laughs are supposed to sound forced and fake. The point of the scene was to put on the facade of happiness or whatever.

There is a scene between Yuna and Tidus in Luca just before you enter Mi'ihen Highroad. This is when Yuna tries to cheer Tidus up by "smiling when you're feeling sad." Tidus tries to laugh but it sounds silly then Yuna joins. The rest of the gang just stares at Tidus and Yuna as if they were crazy. Then Tidus and Yuna laugh normally.
weelll, that's what we talkin' 'bout. :)

The laughing scene reminded me of the "Laughing Place" from Song of the South (http://www.chromo11.com/images/LHS%20202x270%20images/Interview%20LHS/song-of-the-south.jpg)

But it was still sweet :)

I thought the scene was fine, really. I didn't think much of it, it wasn't really strange to me or anything, I just took it as another part of the game.

It was kind've weird to see that hoards of people hated it, I guess I can see why now. But still, it doesn't bother me much.

For those that absolutely hate this scene, such as myself, it's due to the following factors:

The voice acting is at its worst in this scene
The whole dialogue sounds forced
They laugh far too long
No one tells them to shut up (I always wished for Auron to do as much)

Overall, the big idea is that a lot of people found the scene to have an immature, forced, or otherwise annoying and embarrassing quality to it.

However, if eveyone had joined in, especially Auron and Kimarhi, then I wouldn't mind it. In fact, I would probably find it to be quite memorable. We all know how Kimarhi smiles, imagine him laughing...
