So I was out shopping last weekend and saw this delicious Johnny Depp poster which I bought right away and put up in my room. Everytime I look at his piratey face, I get so psyched for the movie. I have mixed feelings about it since sequel's have a rep of being really bad. Anyone else excited? :p

It's not like the first movie had a memorable plot or anything. All the sequel needs to do in order to uphold its predecessor's legacy is continue to provide some decent scenes of Captain Jack fighting zombie pirates, which I expect it will. And taking into consideration the Cthulhu-inspired <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Jones_%28pirate%29">interpretation</a> of Davy Jones on top of that, it could very well be even better than the original.

I can't wait for it. I never saw the original, but pirates, zombies and Bill Nighy make a great mix.

Plus: Keira Knightley. Woof.

I loved her in the first movie, made me laugh. I just hope she hasnt gone all hardcore like Rachel Weisz did in The Mummy 2. I dont like it when the heroine turns into an Alien Ripley.

Why spoiler that? We all know what she looks like cause of the trailers. And Orlando Bloom isnt one bit attractive. Johnny Depp was the only hunky person in the last film, this one and most likely the third installment.

Thank you, Kishi. Thank you for always being there to speak truth.

I'll wait until a friend has it playing on their home theater system when I walk in the door. When the time comes, I'm sure I will enjoy it. Perhaps this time I won't so thoroughly forget the entire thing.

I just got back from it. It was good, but not as good as the first, as expected, and it ended abruptly (since I suppose it's a 2-parter, due to the 3rd movie) and the ending made me so upset because of something that I won't trust to name in even a spoiler tag. Good though. :)

It was great, definitely darker than the first movie, but most middle movies in trilogies exist to set up the events of the final movie.

All in all, it was well worth seeing, not to mention having great special effects.

Well, I heard from quite a few people that it was getting bad reviews from the critics, pre-public release. Just what I heard. I loved the first Pirates though, so it probably won't matter what kind of reviews the new one gets, I'm going to go see it anyways.

The ending makes you want to see the next movie, if for no other reason than to know what the hell just happened.

Don't buy the critiques crap. They hate it whenever something great is re-released in the same vein. I saw it last night, 12:01 AM (no, i'm not that big of a fan, but one of my friends is a Johnny Depp FREAK. she dragged 8 of us with her, lawl.)

Honestly, if you liked the first one, you will adore the second one. If you didn't like the first one, you whill abhore the second. It's more of the same, which in my opinion, is brilliant. But for god's sake, wait for it to get rolling good. The movie, once it get's kicking, is basically PotC:CotBP to the fifteenth power. More fights, more sarcasm, more rampant "everybody has a different agenda" running around and trading sides, more... Jack-ness, and more incredible monster CG than you can shake a stick at. But, the first twenty minute will more than likely aggravate you.

The first little bit was... quite dark and bleak. don't worry, it doesn't stick around long. When it does brighten up a bit and become humerous and adventurous, the In-joke references to the first movie will come so often and fast you'll pray to god they won't keep it up. luckily they don't, because that would've killed the movie. but, as i said, once everybody has hopped on a boat and gone chasing each other, it's awesome.

8/10, the only two minuses being that the beginning didn't fit the mood of the film at all, and the ending... isn't there. It's basically disney giving you the finger and saying "go see the third one in a year to find out how it ends!" so the beggining sucks, and the end sucks. the middle is glorious.

i completely agree with all you just said. i seriously thought the movie was gonna run for like another 30-45 minutes so they could tie up everything, and then the credits began to roll... i was like, ah crap, now i have to wait for the next one to see how it ends... really enjoyed it though, especially the CG, it was awesome.

also, if you stay to the end of the credits, there is a minor funny scene to watch. not all that important, but it made me laugh. :D

just saw the movie and it was great i was really surprised how all the characters turned out to be when certain situations arose...especially elizabeth's character...much darker..much funnier, action packed and awesome special effects...cant wait for number 3

my only tiff was (and was already said) with the begining....it didnt really fit in with the plot and because of that, it didnt really start smoothly and it took awhile for the plot to pick up but when it did your in for a ride (omg that scene with the barrel and the fights on the beach lol)!

the acting was really great im still shocked at what elizabeth did lol and yeah good cliffhanger...they got alot to resolve in the third movie, which will be awesome

overall a really good movie but one thats not for those with weak bladders...tis around 2 and a half hours long

oh and one suggestion...watch the first movie...it might help!:D

I saw Pirates yesterday, It was pretty cool and good, not as good as the first, naturally, and it pretty much set it up for the third one.

zomg pirate redmages and ninjablackmages! roto has a new eoffad!

A set of arch-nemesi for me and my crew to battle? It could happen.

Also I've seen the movie and it absolutely rocked. I may even prefer it to the first for sheer entertainment value. I will say that I wasn't too shocked at Jack dying, since usually a main charater snuffs it or is otherwise captured/incapacitated in the middle of trilogies. I was however suprised and amused by the return of Barbosa, since I always really liked him as a villain in the first one.

Guess we'll find out in the third, or He was undead and then became alive again, like those two idiots that tagged along on Jack's ship. But then Jack did kill Barbosa in the 1st right.. I'm confuzzled.
still doesnt explain it because when he become mortal they shot him dead.

I thought that movie was great. It met the hype I had for it unlike X-Men and Superman. The beginning was kind of slow but the cliffhanger ending didn't detract from it at all. I left satisfied from what I just saw while still excited about the next movie. Good job Disney .

Some of the characters were inconsistent but that didn't take much away from the whole thing.

My take on it is that both Jack and Barbosa died. Jack was eaten by the Kraken and Barbosa killed by Jack. Barbosa was brought back from the dead at 'world's end' somehow and I'm assuming that's why they need him to guide them back there. To the land of the dead to rescue Jack and the Black Pearl, who were both destroyed.

Very, very enjoyable film. Some of the action sequences were simply breathtaking, especially the 3 sided sword-fight toward the end of the film. I was glad that there were so many different opinions and agendas going on, though it was a bit hard to follow.

Depp was his usual wonderful, eccentric self. The real trouble is, he was SO original in the first one, that we came to expect his odd behavior in the sequel, which takes away some of the charm, even though it shouldn't. The fact that Depp still gave Jack Sparrow new angles while keeping true to his character is wonderfully enjoyable.

I actually found the acting to be very good. Bloom, who I'm sort of on the fence with did a fine job, and Ms. Knightley (Who is even more breathtaking, if possible, in person) was great as well.

All I ask in the third film is this: Some sort of appearance by Keith Richards (Which I hear is a very real possibility) and for the loose ends to be tied up. The film set a lot of things into motion, so hopefully they all pay off in the end. I'm optimistic that they will, and am happy with the second film. Granted, I wouldn't call it high art, but it was a fun, rousing time that kept me involved, which is all I really can ask for.

Take care all.

Okay, I went to see it today and... dude, AWESOME. :D

As far as the ending goes, let's not forget that Barbossa's monkey was undead throughout the entire film. Could it be that something was amiss from the supposed conclusion of the first movie?. Either way, I totally didn't see it coming and now I can't wait to see what happens next.

I saw it on Saturday; it was brilliant for all the reasons previously mentioned. I also came to the same conclusion that Del Murder did about Barbosa's sudden appearance. I was looking forward to this movie about as much as I ever have for any other movie (I rarely really care about movies until about a week before they come out), and it met my expectations and more. I feared that it was gonna be a mediocre sequel, but even the sudden "ending," if you can call it that, didn't put a damper on my enjoyment.

...Wicked voodoo priestess. then again, as it seem is the cheat-death card for 90% of the pirates in this movie has been "davy jones will cut you a deal and give you a few more years" so i wouldn't be surprised to hear that. or, some island on the "edge of the world" that he came from is actually hell, and he just left, cuz he's barbossa and badass.

actually, it is worth the money to spend. i think it was way better than the first, and although the way they stopped it kinda sucked ( just because of how good the plot was starting to thicken), i loved it. i would pay to go watch it over and again. and i don't know if anyone else has put this, and if they have sorry, not trying to copy you, but i think that from the way elizabeth was acting toward the end, i believe that when then next movie comes out, her and jack will end up getting together i think anyway, just because of the way they were heating up before the end of the movie. and does anyone know the name of the third movie yet. i read somewhere that it was gonna be Pirates of the Carribean : At Worlds End. is this true.

The pacing felt uneven, and the movie dragged on a bit too long...but it still kicked ass, and was a hell of a lot of fun once it got going. That's what a summer blockbuster should be. The 3-way swordfight was fantastic, especially, and the ending was awesome and somehow didn't annoy me, even though I expected way more resolution.

In terms of acting, visuals, music, action and other things like that, the movie was well done. However, I didn't like it how the final 30 minutes or so were dragging the story only to resolve nothing and create reasons for a sequel. I also felt the characters were inconsistent with the first Pirates movie. The beginning of the movie was quite good, IMHO, and there were some funny moments and a few good action scenes, but otherwise, I didn't warm up to the movie like I did with the first movie.

Personally, I didn't like how in the whole movie, the 'good guys' achieved absolutely nothing at all. Davy Jones is still alive, and the British git has the heart.
However, that is totally forgiveable because of the pure awesomeness of the film. It was just a lot of good fun. Characters may be inconsistent, but the way Johnny Depp acted as Jack Sparrow was totally awesome, you have one of the best characters in film history right there; it really is amazing. Keira Knightley did really well too (woof, she could plunder my treasures anyday), and Orlando Bloom wasn't too annoying. Bill Nighy was excellent as the villain too.
I was a tad disappointed with no Monkey Island references though... no real ones anyway.
But it was an excellent movie, one of the best I've gone to see in a long while, and I can't wait for the next one.

Couple things to say:

1)Horray for milking franchises and still making quality films at the same time.

2)Also, horray for cliffhangers, cause now everyone in the world knows that the 3rd movie will beat the box office record for the second one.

Still can't wait for it to come to my Dollar theater so I can watch it at work. ^^

The next movie comes out early next year, they did that purposefully. If you will notice, most second installments of a trilogy end in a cliffhanger that way.

I know, but the last 30 minutes still didn't work, IMHO. Those parts just felt like cheap cashing and didn't really get me excited about the third part. Matrix Reloaded had the same effect with the cliffhanger ending, I was feeling like I couldn't give any less about how the story continued. I think Empire Strikes Back did its ending well and left you wanting to know what's going to happen in Episode VI. Spider-Man 2 and X2, while not ending in a major cliffhanger, still ended in a way that you knew there would be a sequel, and you wanted to see more of that.

It was ok.

Elizabeth didn't bother me in the least in the first movie, but in this one, she annoyed me. She was rather useless and whiny and scandelous.

I did not like the turn Jack's character took either, but it wasn't so bad that he annoyed me.

I thought the action scenes were amazing. Even better than the first movie.

I did not think Davie Jones was all that great of a villian. Just didn't click.

I was kinda disappointed. I was still entertained. I laughed. I had fun. It was a good movie. It just... wasn't like the first one. I was enraptured by the first one. This one was just... nice.

I thought it was a little too dark for the whole Pirates thing. The first one was a jolly jaunt. A bit of darkness, but that was it. This one may be the Empire Strikes Back, but Davy Jones's pirates were a bit too gruesome. They just didn't need to be so over the top scary. The undead weren't.
It lacked fun, it felt it was serving a purpose, to set up At World's End. Which was the problem.

Plus, the manner how the characters all got caught up felt a bit ridiculous, trying to tie up all the loose knots with a single piece of string. However, I did like how it did feel like part of a Trilogy where bits in the 1st got some more detail and stuff, unlike Matrix where the 1st one felt a little disjointed from the next ones. Still, some bits were totally fun and I lapped up Jack's character. I'm looking forward to the next one, in the same way as Empire. To find conclusion.

(With Matrix, I wanted bloody answers out the third film. Like most, I exited Reloaded going "WTF is going on?". Revolutions was a bad film, AND it didn't answer anything decently. Let's hope Pirates is better.)

I saw it for the second time today. :D

I think it's great. Not as good as the first, but nobody expected it to be, and the second parts of trilogies are often the worst of the three because they're... I dunno, setting the scene?

Barbossa being back is totally freaking awesome. Geoffrey Rush was the best thing about Curse of the Black Pearl (after Johnny Depp, obviously :rolleyes2).

A lot of it had me laughing, which is good, especially Jack with the dirt.

I loved it. :D

The three-way sword-fight was godly.

Something I was thinking about:

At the start of the first movie, there's a destroyed ship and Will is on the piece of wood. Was it the Kraken that destroyed it, maybe? Was the ship the Black Pearl? 'Cause I don't know if I made this up, but I seem to remember someone saying something like "we brought the Pearl back from *insert something evil and dark and stuff, can't remember exactly*"... I'm not sure if that happened or not. xD If I've missed something or am being really retarded, sorry. :p
