FFVI when it was FF3 on the SNES, back in 1994. <3.
Then FFIV when it was FF2 on the SNES.
Well... My sister played FF1 on the NES and would give me the controller but I was to little to comprehend it. =/
So FFVI! =D

I breifly played 7 some years ago in Ireland, for like 20 minutes, but I dont consider that my first. FF8 was my first because I got the guide, bought it instead of renting it and I just loved everything about it.

FFVIII, but I was a youngin' back then so I really didn't understand it. My real first FF was FFX. After I beat it, I went back and played all the other ones. Thus starting an addiction which soon took over my life....Well not anymore.

I played FFIV first when it was back on the Super Nintendo.
Rented it.
Stayed up all night.
Played it until I had to return it.
Even after I had already beaten it.
Sadly, it wasn't my favorite, though. I'd say my favorite Final Fantasy would be FFVII. Cliche, yes... but it is the best. :p

Final Fantasy VII, 1997. i was just watching my cousins and brother have their go at The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (the only formidable game that made Super Nintendo for what it is) - which i rate as one of my best video-game moments. i wasn't really playing, but it was so much fun getting warped into this fantastic game. anyways, a few days later, my brother borrowed one of his friends PlayStation and Final Fantasy VII. he or one of my cousins played until about the end of disc #1, then my brother went a bought a PlayStation 2 and Final Fantasy VII of his own. voila! the same story - always told in different in a different fashion...

The first ff game I played was FF7. Before then I never heard of FF before, but after playing it I loved the final fantasy series ever since.

Same here, I never heard of it either until one day after school my friend wanted to show me a sweet scene from a game hes's been playing(I never played games before then) and it was the death of a certain character. After I saw that I knew I had to get FF VII and a ps1 and since then I've been a gamer and Final Fantasy fanboy :D

Mine was FF V on PS 1.
But back then I just started gaming and didn't know about Final Fantasy.
Judging from the CG models at the game cover, I thought the game was beautiful...
But who knows it didn't have CGIs except for the intro and ending so I lost interest and bought FF8...

So to be more accurate, I should say the first FF I've played is FF VIII ^^"

First FF I ever played and got into? If my memory serves me right it was FF I on DoS. It was the first one I finished. Of course I heard of FF before, a friend of mine was all love about FF X. And I played some NES games which happened to be FF's, and some SNES game which happened to be FF's, but I didn't know that at that time.

Then I started playing FF IV, because I saw Child Rydia's menu face and I thought she was cute, so I wanted to play that game. ^^"
After that, I pfinished VI, than V. Then I finished IX. Lol, and that all in... yes, it'll be close to one year.

I played FFIV first, but didn't finish it because I got bored on my way to the final boss (though I always thought Rydia was awesome). Then FFVII, and didn't finish it because (this is not a spoiler, just what happened to me) Cloud opted to switch sides in the final fight and kill everyone, then himself. I was demoralized, so I didn't try again. I did like the game a lot, though. Then I played FFVI, and finished it. I absolutely loved that game, so it's the one that truly got me hooked on FF. Then I finished VIII, and loved that one too. My favorite would have to be a toss up between VI and VIII. I'm on IX now.

When I was 4 or 5, my dad got me and my brother a playstation 1 and FFVII. I didn't understand it at all and we couldn't save anyway because we didn't have a memory card. it was eventually stolen. 4 years later, my brother got FFX and was hooked on it. I decided to give it a whirl and now am hooked and FFX is my favorite FF. Then, I beat FFVIII. Next, I beat FFX-2. After that, I bought another copy of FFVII and beat it. Then, I beat FFIX. And now, I am currently working on FFVI.

So, my FF playing history is:

1. FFVII (didn't beat it)
2. FFX (beat it)
3. FFVIII (beat it)
4. FFX-2 (beat it)
5. FFVII (finally beat it)
6. FFIX (beat it)
7. FFVI (still working on it)

Mine was FFVII, my friend bought it and I soon did the same, we kind of had a race at it but I lost because he had to borrow my Disc 3.

But anyways, my first definitely isn't my favorite

After VII, I played VI because a different friend practically worshipped it, so I opted to give it a try, and I absolutely loved it.

My favorite one out of the ones I've played and beaten
(FFI,IV,VI,VII,IX) is probably IX

The first Final Fantasy game I played was either Final Fantasy 6 or Mystic Quest back in '99. My friend had the ROMs for both games and forgot which one I played first. Well, the first Final Fantasy game I bought was Final Fantasy III/VI for the SNES. Good times, never beat it though. Got to the final part of the game and never beat it.

The first Square game I played was Super Mario RPG for SNES back in '96. I was only 6 years old! Great game. Possibly my favorite Square game ever, but I'm bias like that. It also had a cool FF cameo: the secret boss Culex.

Oops! I forgot! Final Fantasy VII was my first Final Fantasy game that I played. I remember playing it at my cousin's house. He loved the game, but I hated it and still do. I remember laughing at how bad the graphics were and this was back in '97 when it first came out. I still think it is an over-rated game. I ended up buying it on sale a few years later and sold it because I just couldn't get into the game.

However, the first FF game I got into was Final Fantasy VI or Mystic Quest like I explained above.

Totally agree. I was bit of a latecomer into the series, but FF10 hooked me in. I was able to buy it real cheap and was one of the first games I bought for my PS2. I do believe I saw a friend once play Final Fantasy FF8(had no idea what was going on, but it looked intriguing), which is the reason why I picked up 10 in first place. It took me forever trying to figure out how to do the sphere grid and on my first play through I don't think I used it at all until Operation M. FF10 is still one of my favorites.

when i was i dunno in fourth grade maybe third ( omg long time ago ill be in 10Th grade this year, anyways) i was at the store and i had been a fan of zelda since the NES version (yeah that rocked) i saw FF VIII. now it wasnt my favorite, but the cover looked cool. so i checked it out and liked what i saw, so i bought it. Had it not been for that day that i just decided hey what the heck i would not have bought FF VIII and therefore never played FF. Man I am thankfull

my first was Final Fantasy VII, and I still think it's the best. but over the last 9 or so years (jesus christ), i've played most of the other ones, and I can see why some square traditionalists don't like 7 for its departures from the series.

in my opinion though, it was 6 that started off the departures. it was much darker and more technological than 5. FF7 just carried this on. something needed to be changed anyway, because the first 5 Final Fantasy games basically took place in very similar game worlds. now every game world is different, and there's more risk of people not liking it, but at least they're trying new things.

my friend's copy of FF1, way back in 1994, I was 8 years old at the time I was hooked on RPGs from that day forward.

The first FF I owned was FF6 (FF3 back then) in 1995. I can't remember how many times I stayed up all night playing it. It was a complex as heck for a pre-teen, it took be 3 YEARS to beat it , longer then any other RPG I ever owned.

my friend's copy of FF1, way back in 1994, I was 8 years old at the time I was hooked on RPGs from that day forward.

The first FF I owned was FF6 (FF3 back then) in 1995. I can't remember how many times I stayed up all night playing it. It was a complex as heck for a pre-teen, it took be 3 YEARS to beat it , longer then any other RPG I ever owned.

God, how I love and respect you.

I played FF4 (or FF2, I guess) for the SNES, renting it from Blockbuster every weekend. My brothers and I could not beat the Magus Sisters in the Tower of Zot (because we didn't think to kill the fat one first) and then we moved away, leaving block buster and our save file behind.

We bought FF1 for the NES and loved every difficult and trying second of it. We rented FF2 some more around 1996/7, and made it to Zeromus, but got aced by his superior technique, Mortal Attack Blizzard Fist, also known as "Big Bang". I didn't actually beat Zeromus until about 6 years ago.

Then FF3 happened to me. I haven't been the same since. So MANY nights up until the sun came up. That's what the weekends were for, back then. We ALWAYS stayed up all night playing that game. It was the most surreal gaming experience that I've ever been part of.

I genuinely mourn for those who didn't play FF games until FF8 or 9. I guess that 7 was really good, but it had NOTHING on 6. NOTHING. Not even close.

Definitely. I think The series has generally went downhill after FF7, too much concern with graphics and not enough on gameplay and plot. FF10 would of been fairly good if it wasn't so linear.

My first was final fantasy 8
I remember my bro getting it, and for the first couple of months i thought it was the most boring thing i had ever seen.
Then, one day i played it, and i gotta say...
I was hooked and felt rather idiotic at thinking it was boring haha
now i'm trying to get some of my friends, well, teh girls anyway, to play it...they don't have a problem with games, some just don't lay it ad others can't be bothered...rather unfortunate :P
if only half of them tried it, i'm sure they would like it haha
but since ff8, i've only played 10 and 10-2...i never saw 9 and 11 was online, so i couldn't be bothered...but as soon as 12 comes out over here...well, i'm getting it :P

Well I played 9 first (followed by 7 and 8), but I wound up playing 6 eventually anyway - and lord knows you could find enough people (myself included) to argue with you saying it was all much better pre-FF7.

FFVI back when I was 8 in 1994. First time I played it I started from an high schooler friends existing file, that was at the part where Locke was in Figaro, and I had no idea what to do so I quickly returned it. Like a month later I got it again and started from the begining and loved it.

Got all the way up to the Final boss but a defect in the game erased it! I was so pissed, I returned it to whoever my cousin borrowed it from. Then came FFVII when I was about to be 11(september 10th is my birthday) so when it was released I remeber how shocked I was over the games graphics (but now thats come to pass). Then I dont know which was first FFanthology or FF8, But I know I got FF8 for my birthday again in september.

But FFIX is by far my favorite though.:D

6 was the first one I played...but I was a little kid messing with my big bro's Nintendo, so I don't think that really counts :rolleyes2 I loeved watching him play (until he got to the end and cussed at the screen all the time) My first FF that I played seriously (and actually my first game EVER) was VIII. I loved it SOO much and it was the best game EVAR!!...until I got IX this summer and it became my new obses... I mean, favorite (and will be for quite a while, I think). Sometimes, though, I almost feel like a traitor. :( I still owe it all to you, Squall! Yeah, that was long, sorry.

When I was 12 I kept hearing things about FF9, so I decided to rent it. I got stuck in it really early on though, and I've never gotten around to playing since :p. But then one day I talked to my friend about it and she convinced me to play FF8, and I actually played that one all the way through. FF7 is my favorite though :p

If you didn't know the word "Spoony" before, you do now.

I'm sure you're right. And you are all entitled to your opinions. Obviously, the "best" Final Fantasy isn't absolute. It varies from person to person. Even those who claim the games were better before FF8 will still argue over whether FF5 is better than FF6.

I personally feel that when they made FF7, they did an excellent job on the game, but they also realized that they could sell games just by making them look pretty. As a result, you get a game like FF10 where the graphics are breathtaking, but the gameplay is horribly lacking at just about every moment.

I'm not a programmer, but it seems like it's easier to come up with flashy graphics than it is to come up with catchy gameplay and an incredible story. Square is always trying to make the gameplay in each different and unique, which is a great idea. It just seems like they got lazy on the last few games. They didn't need to put a lot of effort into making catchy, innovative ways to interface with the story and the characters because they could hire guys with the book knowledge necessary to make the prettiest FMVs you've ever seen.

Keep in mind, this is my opinion. I didn't outright HATE Final Fantasy X, either. I liked it a lot. I'm just saying that Final Fantasy had built up quite a name and fan-base for itself, over the first 6/7 games. They had a lot to deliver when FF8, FF9 and FF10 came out. I had really high expectations, and when I saw the commercials for FF8, I was really excited because I figured I'd get a new, interesting gameplay with a fascinating story and the ever present Nobuo tunes, and now I'd get SWEET graphics as well.

They only delivered on the graphics, and partly on the music.

Gameplay, by its very nature and definition, is the thing that makes you like a game. You can't like a game for very long if all you like is the fancy graphics. Take Tetris for example. The game is virtually unchanged, after all these years. No fancy graphics. The music on Tetris rocks, but you only do get the 3 songs. So why do people play Tetris? Because of the gameplay.

I started playing Suikoden Tactics about two months ago. The story is neat as all heck. It's quite bizzare, even early on, and I enjoy the story a lot, overall. But I can't play the game much longer because the gameplay isn't enjoyable for me.

More examples being the Mario games, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3, Super Mario World, and so forth. They did have a story, usually about a princess getting nabbed by Bowser, and Mario going through a lot of work to save her. But honestly, we didn't play the game to see how the story ended, like you might in FF7 or FF6. It was fun to play, no matter what the story behind it was.

Final Fantasy I for the NES...Then IV (II) for the SNES...And then quite possibly the greatest game of all of time...VI (III) when it first came out...I must have spent over a hundred dollars renting that game over the course of a year before I beat it...

Then came VII, amazing....Awesome game, the only game I thought was better then VI. Then VIII came and sucked sooo bad...No MP??? Summons die?? Cant learn magic?? Where's the typical legendary swords?? This aint a Final Fantasy!!! Then it seemed to go downhill from there...Thankfully Square made FFT to hold us over for awhile...

FF1, on the original NES system. Ah the memories, going to have to go back and replay 1 and 2 (aka 4) someday... that was back in the day when leveling up was still a major pain.
