Since old threads are periodically revived I was thinking, do you ever revive dead threads, or are you tempted to? If so, what are your reasons for doing it?

I remember one FASCINATING newbie thread of OLD MANUS revived by our dear SCOTTNUMBERS. Truly classic.

It really depends on the moderators' view on it. On another forum, if the user posts something on-topic and otherwise is still contributing, it's okay. Most forums seem to frown upon thread necromancy however.

I'm too lazy to dig for old threads. So I let them die...

It needs to be called "threadcromancy"

I see little wrong with thread necromancy. Moderators are all "Don't spam topics!" But they're also all "Don't revive dead topics!" but they don't tell you where the line is and you're just trying to follow the rules and then Emma comes along and ;____;. I have to tell the court where she touched me with one of those toy dolls they use.

i frequently revived topics on a message board, although not deliberately. and this reason has partially to contribute, other than my opinion of ezboard being so crummy:

but they don't tell you where the line is

I do it accidentally sometimes... I just search random words... Or for something interesting...etc.... and i post in some ancient threads without realising that they've already started to decompose:barf:.
I don't bother looking at the dates.

I was just about to say that someone will be really really witty and necropost this topic in six months...

The same for me. Although there's been a couple of times when someone had revived an old thread and I didn't notice how it had been dead for a long time, and then I posted in that thread.

If I see a thread that looks interesting, I post in it. I don't really bother looking at dates to see if i'm reviving the dead.

Bumping threads which should not be bumped is against the rules.

Reviving or 'Bumping' of old threads. While there isn't an exact timescale set for when this becomes a no-no, you can generally assume that if a thread has reached the fourth page or is over three months old, then you should leave it. There are very few exceptions to this rule, and if you still want to bump an old thread and are not sure if it's okay, just PM an Administrator or Cid's Knight and we'll let you know if it's okay.

Tada! I bump threads only if I deem them 'bumpable' - for example the Quotes thread, the Movie Rating thread and the like.

'Update' threads would be an exception. (Someone's game challenge, etc.)
