Playing all the way through FFVII i never read Cait Sith's dialogue in a really strong scottish accent so when it popped up in the movie i was completely thrown! (espec when i at first thought it was Red XIII speaking!!!! haha!) anybody else think it was wierd, or just me?

I feel the same way. I always thought that his accent would be of a winy talking cat type of tone.

Yuffie: What are you talking about?
Cid: This is a man's talk.
Yuffie: Sexist! Sexist!
Cait Sith: Arggh! Will ya shut your mouth lassie!?

I never thought that Cid would have a country accent.

Cait Sith (Ket Shee) is a Gaelic name for the king of cats. Kinda makes sense for him to affect the accent to get into character.

I thought his voice was great =D
I didn't really dwell on how his voice might sound, I was more worried about everyone else :I

It sounds EXACTLY like it's from scotland because that's where Gaelic is from, and it's what they spoke before English came about.

It only adds to Kitten Sith's cuteness!

...and annoyance.

Still, cool how they put him 'in character'.

That was really weird and unexpected. It's not exactly bad, but it just doesn't seem to fit. Well actually, in one way it does, cause Cait Sith is different from the other people already. Still, though, whoa. Eh.

That Omni-Slash in the second link is like the
one in Chain of Memories.

It was a little surprising, since he's got something closer to an American country accent in the game. In the end, though, I think it was a decent choice - in both the English and Japanese versions of the game, the key difference between Reeve and Cait Sith is that one uses a formal tone, while the other is very informal and 'rural'. Since AC's Cid spoke with a bit of a twang, it was good that they chose a different, distinct accent for Cait Sith.

I always imagined Cait Sith to talk in a similar, if not the same, type of voice as Meowth from Pokemon.

I always imagined a classic 'New Yoika' accent.

The accent thing did toss me for a loop. Not really how I imagined him... Though I'm more surprised at how horribly I was mispronouncing his name all this time. Thank the Gods for wikipedia for that wisdom I guess.

You can blame that on the translators who can't seem to read katakana.

What? "Cait Sith" is the correct spelling. They just should have put a pronounciation guide in the instruction manual.

Zeromus_X

And they still just made it all the more confusing, by spelling it that way.

"Cait Sith" is Gaelic for "Fairy Cat." That's out of Square's hands.

Is that how it's spelled in Gaelic? Either way, most people aren't going to bother looking for the right pronounciation anyway.

Enough of that, more Kitten Sith! :cat:  http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i166/Zeromus_X/Cait_Sith.gif

I can't believe how some people get so concerned with the freaking voices. I couldn't care less what anyone sounds like as long as it is reasonable.

In FF7, I never imagined what the characters would sound like. I just read the dialogue, I didn't waste my time making up accents that would distract me and take away from what the person was saying.

Me too. The scottish drawl is alright though - it seems to fit almost as well.

And of COURSE Cid sound a little country! He gone built heself an aeryo-plane, y'all! Gy-hyuck-hyuck!

::Stabs you in the head with the Highwind. Not the spear, the airship::

Southerners do NOT sound like Goofy. Kapische? Even the majority of those who do have drawls do not sound as ridiculous as you make them sound.

I like that Cid has a southern accent. Cid's the ultimate in ciritical rational thinking, and I like it that a southerner could be portrayed like that. Helps out image. Now if only more southerners were more like myself and Cid...

First, I believe it's spelled capice. Or something like that, I dont speak Italian.
Secondly, I suppose that the Scottish accent makes sense, but it still suprised me. And I figured the "New Yoika" accent (that's a fun way to speak) would fit too.
Thirdly, I think Cid had a good accent. Fit him well.
Fourthly, Cait Sith is awesome, even if he was a traitor.

I didnt mean to say i thought it was wrong for him to have the accent, i did think it was cool, (espec with his name being gaelic, i didnt know that!) just unexpected!

To change the vibe a bit, does anyone think that Yuffie not having a far eastern accent is wierd? if they gave accents to Cait and Cid, why not her?

I know. The mispelling was intentional. No real purpose to it. I just kinda like the look of 'Kapische'. It is one of my idiosyncracies. Pay it no mind.

I thought Gaelic was Irish. My brother had to learn it when he was in school in Ireland.
