Why?

1) He has no memory. Amnesia is a classic sign of drinking too much and then drinking to forget that you forgot, continuing the vicious cycle.
2) He hangs out in bars. He lives in the basement of a bar in Sector 7. Stumbling distance ftw!
3) His girlfriend is a bartender. You know they trade cocktails for ... Yeah, you get the picture.
4) "Finishing Touch" Limit Break. Contrary to popular belief, for this limit break Cloud actually puts the "finishing touch" on downing a brew, at which point he lets out a massive whirlwind of a belch that plows through the enemy.
5) Barret's interchangable hand. You know Barret has a keg tap attachment with him at all times so that he can hold Cloud up and let him do keg stands.

Cloud - Ok, it's my fault, but Barret helped too! How do you thik he doen't have a hand? He once drank so much that the glass got sticked into his hand!

Not to mention in the bumble bee inn he passes out and wakes up in a bed with Mukki on top of him. Drunken one night stands? With men? Gotta be the booze.

hrm...lionharte's sig makes me think that Sephy used to be his drinking buddy. Then he recovered and hid all the booze from Cloud so he wouldn't drink anymore and now Cloud is pissed and wants revenge.

Tiffa also finds him passed out by the train. Case closed there.

Also, if you loose the motorcycle on the hiway minigame, shinra locks him up under DWI charges.

wow! the world is so much clearer to me now... and you notice tifa's bar is almost always empty? that's coz cloud drank all the booze! (and, under the influence of alcohol, he cheated on tifa with aeris...)

By George! I think you're onto something! It's not entirely impossible (or improbable for that matter) that Cloud is an alcoholic. There might be some validity to this arguement.

He failed to become part of SOLDIER so he started drinking...and when Zack tried to tell him to go easy on the booze he shot him (drunk of course) then Tifa found him in the alley...makes perfect sense!!!
