View Full Version : Batman vs. Superman

Which super hero do you prefer Batman or Superman? I like Superman he has a lot of super powers he can fly, he can hear noises from miles away, he has super human strength, he can run really fast, he can shoot laser beams out of his eyes, he can freeze objects with his breath, and he can see through walls. I also like Batman I don't know why but I think Batman is cool even though he doesn't have any super powers at all. I can't decide I like them both!:)

DeathKnight

It's not 'bout Superpowers, it's 'bout who's smarter. And we ALL now Batman can outsmart Superman in EVERY way.

Besides, Batman does everything in a more realistic and darker more honest way than Superman and has more style.

Batman, no contest.

It's not about who would win in a fist fight, because Batman would not get himself into that situation.

Batman is of course much better, well not physically I appeal to Batman more because he's more realistic. See all the powers Superman has, he's almost a god he could live probably to the age of 300. Superman lacks a personality unlike the dark knight.

And the Batman cartoon was much better a little girl had a teddy bear for a machine gun, pure genious!

I think I agree with DeathKnight. Superman, from what I've seen, is just so noble and so gentlemanly and so boring. No personality. Batman, Bruce Wayne, is much more interesting. He's got better people surrounding him too. I also like that he's not an alien or whatever.

Batman has a far better personality, much better comic books, and has kicked Superman's ass on at least a couple occassions. The Dark Knight is not only better than Superman, he's one of the best comic books characters out there. Superman has the super powers, which is exactly why he's not as interesting.

Superman is so lame now a days. He got all the super powers at once and left none for any one else. Speed..taken
Strenght-taken
xray vision....yep
flying-yah
like alot ...look at the JLA

He freakin runs the damn place and could take all of them most likely except for batman if batman had enough time to come up with a plan. But if superman was on a rampage he would kill not only batman but the entire JLA.

Superman is the lamest superhero ever. He leaves only the lamest talents

I can make the color green! (latern boy)

They had to speed flash up even more because with lame superman "whoring" away everone else's powers flash looked insignifcant. Superman gets faster with every comic issue and movie so it really doesnt matter any ways that they try to make the other super heros look signifcant while "super power whore " steals everyone elses powers to be super dupper at all the powers..:mad2:

There's just one example...superman can also hold his breathe as long as aqua man...but he cant talk to fish as aqua man can so theres on thing the rest of the Jla is good for. Talking to fish.

Batman is much cooler but superman is like so lame. I have seen the movies though and I collect comics.

Of course the Flash can beat Superman in a foot race, , Flash's specialty is speed, Superman has all those other ones to lower it down. Has Superman ever gone so fast that tore a hole in the spice and time thingy? nope.

Batman, there is no contest. Gadgets, cars, mansion and a sad dark pas, Bruce Wayne owns, even as an old guy in the new Batman cartoons. Plus hes just an normal everyday guy, not an alien with super powers.

Oh yeah, Lex Luthor is awesome. Watching Smallville on TV, while maybe not exactly canon, really shows you some of his underlying character.

You're right, Batman isn't really a 'Super Hero', since he isn't really 'Super' at all. He's exceptionally ordinary, which is why so many people relate to him. He kicks butt without being a freak.

Superman and Flash are equally fast on foot, at least from what I remember from a race they had on the cartoon. Supe would toast him if he flew though.

Superman is overly powerful, making him predictable. A good hero I suppose, but not as good as many other superheroes. Batman is amazing, and quite dark, he has more psychological issues and problems to make him more real and The Killing Joke (I think it was called that) and Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns were genius.

I don't have to read the thread and I know that most people will put that they like Batman better because he is more "realistic" or "darker" or "more intelligent" or some crap like that. But really, this is a competition between fictional characters, none of that should have any basis.

Anyways, I voted Superman. I always liked his comics alot more. And Batman would get ted on by all of the Superman villains, come on, Doomsday anyone?

There's probably a good chance that, if Batman ever slipped enough long enough to get himself in a straightforward fight with Superman, Superman would come out victorious. However, that doesn't make him a better superhero. Superman is, well, super, but he doesn't put the effort and ingenuity forward that Batman does to take out a villain. In my mind, that makes Batman a better hero.

Let's compare the uniqueness of the villains, first Joker and Lex Luther.

The Joker is an insane man who wears make up, green hair nad a purple suit, Instead of killing his enemies he sends them into an unending bliss of manacule laughing and he has exploding pies.

Luther is a billionare and has a lot of powerful guns that's all. Oh and is bald headed

The Riddler; a very unique villian that leaves behind riddles whenever he leaves a crime scene

Metallo: Half robot half man just awful

Catwoman: A woman with the agility of a cat and own a cat named Icis. Batman has an affectionate feeling for her thus affecting his ability to capture her

Maxima: a woman with Super strenght and flight just a copy of wonderwoman

Harley: A girl that's a jester there's just no beating it

Bizzaro: Okay I admit I like bizzaro

Poison Ivy: Is the best with the power to control mutant plants.

Braniac: a cool robot that can link itself to any computer system even if he's destroyed.

Mr. Freeze: A man that can survive the extreme temperatures of Antartica and has a freeze gun and don't tell me that if Superman got frozen that he could unthaw himself, when you're frozen you're frozen, your heart stops beating too and that's why Batman is better.

Batgirl is better than Supergirl.

I've not seen Batman Begins but i did hear good things about Bale in the role but i still think Keaton (specially in Batman Returns) was the best Batman. Orginal actors of a series of movies always seem to be the best. Like Sean Connery was the best Bond by a mile, but Pierce did do a good job also. Paul Walker in the Fast & Furious movie was great. I mean take a look at Indiana Jones, could anyone play the role of Indiana Jones better than Harrison Ford?

I didn't like Adam West as Batman I thought his performance was just as bad as George Clooney's performance.

At least it's forgiveable since it was the sixties. And to his credit, Clooney admits that Batman & Robin was the single worst movie he's ever done and that no one should see it.I'm almost shocked at how many people are saying that the Tim Burton movies were the best. Says a lot about how many here have actually read a comic with Batman in it. Burton really didn't seem to get the character of Batman or Bruce Wayne to me, whereas Batman Begins nailed it.

That said, I prefer Superman. Everyone who says Superman is a one dimensional character is only looking at one aspect of him; Superman (and usually just refer to the tired argument of him being too powerful). Superman's a fascade for the rest of the world; the living representation of all that's good in everyone. A living icon meant to inspire others. Clark is also something of an act; he has to constantly restrain himself, and hide his powers to protect those around him from both the dangers of his life as Superman, and himself to an extent. Imagine how bad things would be if Clark got angry and lost control for an instant. He's never truly able to be himself with anyone other than those who know his secret. There's a lot of depth in the character, especially when you read something by writers who truly get him. Go read some well written Superman stories (Kingdom Come, Secret Identity, Red Son, and many others) and tell me he's a boring character lacking depth.

And anyone who want's to make the claim that Batman is smarter, well, he probably is more intelligent, however Clark is well above average intelligence as well. The reason most people mistake him as being far less intelligent than his heroic peers is because he rarely needs to use his intelligence to win a battle. Why come up with some harebrained scheme for foiling some bank robbers when super speed and invulnerability get the job done quickly and easily? Batman needs to use every ounce of his intelligence because it's the only tool he really has.

Batman, by far, has a better, more layered personality, his comics seemed to hold more story and meaning than the Superman ones I read, and there's something about him roaming the city at night, out of the spotlight, that appeals to me. Superman comes off as an over-gentleman-like character that unwittingly shows off his grandeur by doing everything in broad daylight, for everyone to see.

Whatever, Batman has a darker, more complex character, and that scores more points with me than a god sent from Krypton from way out where...

Well why don't we ask the two superheroes themselves? Here's what they have to say:

Hi! I'm Superman. My power is that I AM INVINCIBLE. No one can beat me. My only weaknesses are a super rare material that's nigh impossible to get ahold of, and occasionally some alien will be able to put up a good fight or something. I even died at one point...but it's okay because I came back to life so whatever. No one can stop me, ever. Also, I am incredibly lame and boring. And I stink. Mostly because I poop myself a lot.

Hi! I'm Batman. I'm way better than Superman for more reasons than I care to mention. Thank you.

That settles it.

The problem with Superman is of course that he's too powerful. So his adventures more rely on the villains to find a way to stop him, rather than him trying to stop the villains. This is why Lex Luthor is such a great character. He is the mastermind always trying to find a way to dupe Supes.

Batman is the opposite. Since he has no super power, it is up to him to outhink his enemy. This gives him a deeper character and provides for much more entertaining storylines, since in the end his great schemes actually work, while those against Superman always fail.

There's one thing I don't understand about Superman how does his sidekick Supergirl have the same powers he has? I mean Supergirl obviously isn't from Krypton...I've never read a Superman comic book before and it's been a while since I've seen a Superman cartoon so this puzzles me. The Joker : I mean when I say I made you...You gotta say you made
me right!?

The Joker : How childish can you get!?

The Joker : You wouldn't hit a guy wearing glasses would you?

I recognise some of those lines but not all. Are they all from Tim Burton's Batman?
