The Best Hero Tournament (Heroes Wanted)

Greetings, it's time for another one of these tournaments. In the past two years, I have ran such tournaments in General Gaming Discussion. Back in 2004, I did a tournament in search of the sexiest female video game character, and the winner was Seun Mina of the Soul Calibur series. Last year, I held a tournament looking for the greatest villain in video game history. The winner turned out to be Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. This year, we'll be looking for the best hero in video games. Yes, that's right, best hero. I am looking for at least 64 heroes to include in this tournament, if I gather twice that amount, I will include 128 of them to make things interesting.

Last year, we did everything in polls, so we may have to revert back to the old method of posting your selections, thus staying in one thread throughout the tourney. (That would mean a staffer will have to actively update the thread title whenever we progress.) Or we can go continue with using polls like last year, in which I make a thread for each set. Personally, I don't care, but I would let everyone decide via poll.

Anyway, go fill out the poll and name some heroes to include in the tourney. Name as many as you can, and include the name of the game or series the character is from if it's not obvious. I will not accept characters from games based on a movie, book, or comic. So heroes like James Bond, Spider-man, and Luke Skywalker are all disqualified.

Of course, considering that doing this tournament with polls is the option of choice for about 7 of the voters, if I go wth 128, that would mean I would have to make 8 threads for each set of characters of 16 for the first round.
