The Best Hero Tournament (Official discussions thread)

This will be the official discussions thread for the Best Hero Tournament in General Gaming Discussion. Feel free to discuss about the tournament at hand. I will be making seperate threads for each bracket for easier voting. In those threads, you may discuss about that particular bracket and how things are going.

In any case, there will be eight brackets. Each named according to the top character listed as #1. The brackets are the following: Hyrule, Grey Fox, Heartless, Red Alert, Mushroom, Athens, Zebes, and Zenkden.

I'm pretty sure you can guess who's the top character in a few of the brackets. Expect to see eight threads sometime tomorrow (July 18) for voting. :) In case you forgot, voting will be done by polls, so vote accordingly.

OK, so here's my offer. I'm willing to write a battle between the two heroes and have the winner (by votes) be the victor. This may end up forcing some serious nerfing on the other end, but I'll make sure it ends up the way it's supposed to go. It'd be akin to my Grand Tournament that I did awhile back, so if you're interested I'm up for it.

Well, there's going to be eight match-ups per bracket in the first round. I'm not sure if you can do 16 battles within the first round, but if you can do it, I will love to see you give it a shot. It would make for a more interesting tournament. I really appreciate it BtV, man without peer!

How much advance notice can you give me? If I have enough time (I'm working and taking one class right now) I can definitely get them for you. They usually take me between half an hour and an hour to write each. And if I don't have time to do them all, I may write some of the more interesting match-ups and do something funny/weird for the others.

• There are 23 characters from various Nintendo series.
• There are 9 characters from various fighting series.
• There are 21 female characters.

Well, I made a thread (the one asking for heroes) with a poll asking if I should go with keeping the tourney in one thread where votes are made by posts, or make seperate threads for each poll made. And the majority (7 out of 10) voted for the latter. So I went with it. I would have stuck everything in one thread, but the people want their polls to vote in.

Ok, well you only considered people who wanted to participate. Sure, 7 out of 10 people who were interested in your tournament wanted multiple threads, but that does not mean 70% of the general gaming regulars or the staff felt that way. This is a pretty active forum and I think 7 threads for one event will detract from the other topics in here.

I'm sorry, Del I posted the thread a few days ago, and no staff member other than Behold the Void viewed the thread. Now how about when the round is over, we can merge the polls with this thread? If I had the power to do so, I will do exactly that. I have done it elsewhere since all the polls were closed. I don't know if it will be much of a problem, but if it's too much of a hassle for the staff to merge the polls to this thread when the round is over, then at least allow the threads to be made for the polls in this tournament.

Before the threads get merged, I will post the results of each poll so you can further discuss the results. And let's not forget that Behold the Void will be writing some fights for several match-ups in each bracket, so look forward to those. :D

Alright, under certain circumstances, I will be making several changes to the tournament. Seeing that we will have half of 128 characters remaining with 64, I will be making four new brackets. What this means is that we will not have polls after this round.

Once this round is over, all the threads will be merged with this. So this thread will have many more posts. I will do my best to keep things clean in the future. This means that voting will be done by PMs similar to the Screen Name tournaments. Look forward to that.

Meanwhile, continue to look forward to future battles written by Behold the Void. :D

Master Chief vs. the Prince
Written by Behold the Void

Of all of the known warriors in the universe, none seem quite as legendary as the great Master Chief. Tall, proud, clad in high tech battle armor that is absolutely state of the art. Master Chief is a fearless warrior, an expert gunman, able to perform great feats of strength and cunning. Truly he has no match.

Today, Master Chief is walking, nay, strutting across the field of battle. The world is his oyster, and he fears no challenge.

But wait! What’s that? In the horizon, it appears his next challenge has come. It looks like a large… ball of… stuff? What is this, some kind of joke? You pit the greatest warrior and star of the most popular gaming series in the world, nay the universe, against a wad of trash?

Look at Master Chief as he stands tall, drawing his guns and facing down the massive clump, not even caring that it’s picking up everything in its path.

Wait, hold on. You’re not serious. It’s… it’s picking up everything! That castle, that lake, that HILL! How do you pick up a lake!? Oh no, it’s coming here. Why!? Why aren’t the guns doing anything!? Run, Master Chief, RUN! It’s too much! It’s too much! Oh the humanity! Master Chief has been picked up by that great wad! Oh god it’s coming here! Run! Run everybody! We’re all doomed we’re all…

Epilogue:

Hmmm… what is this? A katamari you say? We think this could be bigger. You are the Prince. This katamari is hardly princely. Next time, we think you should try harder. But, I suppose this shall have to do. Even tiny stars have a place in the universe.

Yuna vs. Fei

A young man in a plain white shirt and green pants sat on a large tree looking up at the stars. He had short hair, save for a long ponytail, and his build was muscular.

As his attention was elsewhere, a young girl crept up on him. She had short brown hair, except for one extremely long ponytail that fell to her thighs. She wore a white shirt; open at the front and lacking any fabric above her far from modest bosom. She also wore a pair of shorts, and a long blue and white cloth that covered her left leg.

“Hey!” she yelled, knocking him out of his contemplation.

“I heard you had some treasure!”

The man looked up at her, annoyance stamped across his features.

“I don’t have anything. Go away and leave me alone.”

“Awww, come on,” she said in a wheedling tone. “I’ve been looking all night and I’m tired!”

She placed a great emphasis on the last word, causing the man’s face to grow yet more annoyed.

“I don’t have anything for you! Go away!” he said, almost yelling.

The girl’s face grew petulant.

“Fei Fong Wong, I know you have some treasure and I’m not going to leave until you hand it over!”

“Get lost!” Fei shouted, a ball of energy forming in his hands. He hurled it in her general direction, much in the way someone would hurl a warning attack that wasn’t really meant to kill.

The girl yelped and dodged to the side.

“Ohhh I’ll get you for that! Nobody messes with Yuna of the Gullwings!”

Yuna drew two guns and twirled them around, firing several shots at Fei.

This time Fei responded, jumping from his spot with a curse and dodging aside.

”What the hell are you doing!?” he demanded.

“Give me my treasure!” Yuna yelled, firing several more shots.

“I don’t have time for this,” Fei said exasperatedly. “Weltall!”
Fei leapt into the air as a massive blue humanoid robot landed behind him and knelt before him, its cockpit opening up.

As he entered the cockpit, the robot straightened.

“You’ve got five seconds to get the hell out of here before I turn you into a bloody smear!” he yelled through the intercom.

Yuna looked up at the robot in awe for a moment, until Fei started counting.

“One!”

Yuna blanched and fled, nearly stumbling over her feet as she ran.

Ryu vs. chaos

Two figures entered a domed arena. One was a young man in an orange and blue space suit. His hair was white and his skin was tanned, his demeanor was calm and composed, even serene.

The other was a man of about the same age. He had a white shirt and blue pants, and he held a sword easily in his right hand.

Nodding respectfully to each other, both assumed a fighting stance.

“Ryu of the Dragon,” the white-haired man said. “It is good to meet you.”

“Likewise, chaos,” Ryu replied. “Let’s make this a good match.”

For several tense seconds they faced off, until, almost as one, they both launched themselves at each other.

chaos came in low, lowering his hand and releasing a burst of white energy. Ryu jumped to the side and rolled on the ground, dodging the blast and coming up with his sword at the ready. Without pausing, chaos surged forward, huge feathery wings appearing on his back. A ball of ice formed in his hands and he beat his wings once, thrusting himself into the air. Raising the ball of ice, he hurled it at Ryu, the ball growing bigger as it flew towards him.

Ryu looked up at the incoming ball without fear, and his body began to grow and change. Just before the ball hit, a burst of flame shot forth from where Ryu had been standing, melting the ball of ice.

A massive red dragon stood where Ryu had been just moments before. Flexing the wings on its back, it hurled itself into the air.

chaos flew down to meet the oncoming threat, light gathering around his arms. Both combatants met with a loud clash, before exchanging blows in midair.

The dragon’s claws came in low, overreaching. Sensing an opening, chaos thrust his hand forward, only to be knocked aside as a huge lashing tail bat him out of the way and sent him hurtling downward.

Without pausing, the dragon folded its wings and shot down like an arrow, pursing chaos’ falling body. Just as chaos stretched his wings to right himself, the dragon pounced, raking its claws along the wings and pulling him down to the ground.

Both fighters hit the ground with a heavy thud, sending dust flying. As it cleared, chaos stood on the ground, his wings bloody and his face battered. Ryu stood over him with his sword pointed at his throat, smiling slightly.

Cloud vs. Ryu.

A blonde, spikey-haired man in black clothing and carrying a massive sword strapped to his back wandered aimlessly through the streets. His face was expressionless, almost dazed, and he didn’t seem to really know where he was.

“Hey.”

He kept walking.

“Hey you. Spike-head!”

He turned to see a muscular man in a white gi with a black belt and red headband standing in front of him.

“You look pretty strong. You really know how to use that sword?”

“Yeah,” the blonde man said noncommittally.

“You interested in a fight? I’m always looking for strong opponents,” the martial artist said.

The blonde seemed taken aback for a moment, before smiling slightly.

“Sure, why not?” he asked. “Sounds like fun.”

“That’s the spirt!” the martial artist said with a smile. “By the way, I’m Ryu. What’s your name?”

“Cloud,” the blonde answered.

“All right then, Cloud. Let’s go!”

Almost before Cloud could unsheathe his sword, Ryu was upon him, spinning through the air and releasing several successive kicks.

Cloud jumped back and brought his sword up into a guard stance. Ryu followed through with two swift punches, both of which Cloud blocked with the flat of his blade.

Pushing forward, Cloud brought his sword around in a wide arc. Ryu easily jumped over the blade and kicked out, landing a solid blow to Cloud’s face that sent him sprawling.

“Too slow!” he said, barely allowing his feet to touch the ground again before he leapt high into the air. He clenched his hands together behind his back, keeping them in Cloud’s blind spot.

Cloud jumped to his feet and brought his sword up, slashing at Ryu again as Ryu fell towards him.

“HADOKEN!” Ryu shouted, unleashing a burst of ki energy that hurled itself at Cloud. Cloud’s eyes widened as the blast slammed into him, knocking him to the ground.

Using the momentum of his hadoken, Ryu nimbly landed on his feet several meters away from where Cloud had fell. He recovered to his fighting stance, and waited.

Cloud burst forward, his eyes glowing and his sword swinging with a succession of swift slashes.

Ryu jumped in the air, flipping over Cloud as Cloud surged forward. Unable to stop the momentum of his attack, Cloud kept moving forward as Ryu clenched his hands together again.

“HADOKEN!”

The blast of energy struck Cloud in the back and sent him flying forward, the momentum of his attack helping it blast him into a nearby house.

Cloud lay sprawled the wreckage completely dazed, and did not stand again for quite some time.

A couple fights before the round is done.

Link vs. Megaman
Written by Behold the Void

The sound of hoof beats and rocket propulsion filled the air as two combatants rode into battle against each other.

One of them was a young man with pointed ears, a sack-like green hat, green tunic, and white trousers. He had a burnished shield with a silver, mirror-like finish and a longsword in a steel sheathe strapped to his back, and in his hands he held a drawn bow.

The other appeared to be a small preteen boy dressed in a blue suit. He had a metal helmet on, as well as metal gloves and boots. One of his arms was in the form of a large blaster, and his feet were strapped to the back of a robotic dog that seemed to have morphed into a rocket-board.

As they approached each other, both veered off to their left. Link pivoted quickly in his saddle, blue energy emanating from the tip of his arrow. He loosed it at Megaman just as Megaman turned and unleashed a large burst of energy from his buster arm.

Both projectiles collided with a crash, and Megaman’s buster blast won through, continuing along the path (albeit weakened) and hurling itself at Link.

Link ducked down and flung his body to the side of his horse, until his head was parallel with the ground. As the blast flew harmlessly over him, he righted himself and drew his sword and shield.

Wheeling his horse around for another pass, Link spurred it on and raised his sword high, his shield held to the side of his horse and easily able to be maneuvered upward.

Megaman spun his own mount around and jetted towards Link, his body beginning to glow.

As they approached each other, Megaman veered off to the right, using his mount’s superior maneuverability. Link dug his heels into Epona’s flanks just as Megaman unleashed a huge blast of energy.

Link immediately snapped his shield up and blocked the energy blast. As it connected with the shield, it was thrust back, hitting Megaman squarely in the chest and blasting him off of his mount.

Spurring Epona forward, Link leapt out of the saddle and landed right next to Megaman’s body, which had several circuits exposed in the chest area. Link leveled his sword at Megaman’s throat, not that the little robot boy was in a state that would allow him to continue fighting.

It was close. rather too close. I don't know since it took so long to gather the nine votes, as the votes were 5-4. That's just how close it was. Anyway, I guess we can stop any future votes from coming in and let this tourney end. So what do you guys think? I do believe that we have a worthy winner of a Hero tournament? :D

Anyway, now that the result is out, we can wait for Behold the Void to finish up the final fight between Frog and Locke, that is if he ever gets around to it. :riiight:

Sorry this took me so long, Pr00t. Work 'n such. Hope you all enjoy! I can close this thread whenever if need be, as I can't remember if FS can still close their own threads.

The coliseum was huge and brightly lit with thousands of spectators lining the seats. On a large platform a huge octopus-like creature stood with a microphone grasped in one of its many tentacles, a huge pink blob-like monster standing behind it and looking mean.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, octopi and fleshy variety alike! Welcome to the battle you’ve all been waiting for! Tonight, right here in this very coliseum, two brave and valiant warriors will go head-to-head in a no-holds-barred fight to the death!”
A piece of paper was held out by a wrinkled hand, which Ultros idly grasped in one of his tentacles before putting it in front of his face.
“What!? Well that’s disappointing. Very well, ladies and gentlemen, it has come to my attention that both combatants agreed that this is not a fight to the death. It might still be fun to watch though. Maybe. Anyway, without further ado, let’s bring out the contestants!”
The heavy portcullises clattered open and two figures stepped onto the field. One was a young man with short blond hair and a blue bandana on his head. He wore a black leather jacket and black trousers, as well as a white undershirt underneath. Both his hands were wrapped in leather, and he held two wicked-looking daggers, one in each hand and both held with the blade facing down. At his belt were strapped two empty dagger sheathes, and on his back was a long, almost sword-like object wrapped in cloth.
The second was not human at all, but instead a giant, humanoid frog. He wore a gold plate mail on his chest and a long green cloak that was almost as tall as he was. His pants were white, and strapped to his right arm was a buckler. In his left hand he held a long sword etched in ancient runes that glowed with a faint blue light.
“Our battle today is between the king of… *ahem* TREASURE HUNTERS, Locke Cole, and the cursed frog-man with the ever-so-creative name, Frog! BEGIN!”
Locke immediately fell into a crouching defensive stance, his daggers held low and at the ready.
Frog raised his blade high into the air, and with a mighty ribbit he charged forward, his blade glowing.
Locke shot forward suddenly as Frog unleashed a vicious downward slash. Dodging nimbly to the side, he moved around Frog’s left side and slashed at his chest, the dagger glinting in the sunlight with an unnatural shine.
The blade struck the plate and rebounded, causing Locke to curse and drop his arm back just in time to catch the broad end of Frog’s shield as it slammed into his back.
Locke fell forward, but managed to tumble and avoid the impact before coming up and spinning quickly.
Just as he turned, Frog raised his sword and a wave of water washed over him, throwing him backwards even further. This time, Locke hit the ground hard, sliding through the dirt.
Springing back to his feet, Locke shook his head slightly and spat a bit of blood from his mouth, a grin on his face.
This time, Frog assumed a more defensive stance, now wary of what Locke might try.
Locke shot forward again, both daggers held low and to his right side.
Frog brought his sword into a thrusting position and brought his shield forward, crouching slightly.
Locke suddenly jammed both of his daggers into their sheathes, revealing flames coiled around his arms.
“Fira!” he screamed, unleashing a burst of spiraling flame at Frog.
Frog thrust his sword forward.
“Water!” he shouted, a burst of water springing forward to meet the fire.
The two spells met and erupted into a burst of white steam.
When the steam cleared, Frog’s left hand was empty.
Standing behind him was Locke, holding Frog’s blade with a cocky grin on his face.
Frog turned to face Locke, but his amphibious face seemed to smile as well.
The sword in Locke’s hands glowed and disappeared, and in an instant a huge shadow loomed over him.
Locke turned slowly to find a large, muscular humanoid with yellow skin standing over him with a look on its face that clearly said that it was not at all amused.
Locke swore loudly and jumped back as one of it’s fists nearly connected with his face. Although he was able to avoid that attack, he was not able to avoid the bolt of lightning that arced out of its fist and slammed into his chest, throwing him backwards.
The creature seemed to laugh as Locke’s back hit the dirt for the second time this round, before it shimmered and vanished.
As Locke sprung to his feet, the sword was once again in Frog’s hand, and the blue glow was even stronger.
“Well then, I guess it’s time to stop pulling my punches,” Locke said, grasping the cloth-covered object on his back. Pulling it out, he tore away the cloth, revealing a long sword with a blade formed of pure blue energy. As he held it, the blade seemed to extend and grow longer and brighter.
Frog seemed to smile, gripping his sword with both hands, making his buckler less useable but improving the strength behind his own weapon.
“Come!” he shouted.
Locke charged forward and swung his blade in a wide horizontal arc, the energy weaving and warping as it cut through the air.
With little more than a shift in the position of his wrists, Frog brought his own sword to bear, deflecting the attack.
Without losing ground, Locke pressed the attack again and again, slashing from all sides and angles with swift strokes.
Frog stood his ground, dashing aside each attack with as little movement as possible, his feet firmly planted and his stance strong.
Finally, Locke overreached himself. Moving his arms a fraction of an inch, Frog wedged his sword under Locke’s and pushed off, breaking Locke’s stance and throwing his sword up ineffectually into the air.
Locking his blade back into position, Frog thrust, blue energy bursting forward and slamming into Locke’s chest. The energy blasted him backwards, smashing him into the coliseum wall and crushing part of the wall’s exterior.
Locke seemed pinned to the wall for a moment, before he fell forward, unconscious.
The crowd erupted into loud cheers as Frog raised his sword high in celebration of his victory.

I refuse to use numbers in any of the fights that I write, this goes back to the old Grand Tournament. I think the -ra, -ga, and -ja sounds more natural to say when incanting a spell, and thus that is what I use.
