is it possible to split large mkv files? or you have to convert them to avi first?

http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/
VitualDubMOD will do MKV splitting I think. It's worth a try at least.

Just don't feed VDubMod an .mkv with variable framerate video in it, since it will mess it up nicely for you :p

VFR makes PG cry
what you do in Vdub is to use copy a section of the media track (like 1/2 of it) by choose the first frame as 1 and the end frame as (example) 224500. Then you choose 'copy from source'. It would just copy it.

They started using VFR? I didn't realize the encoding process was around. Sounds like it'd be awful xD
