Check them both out. They both look excellent. I'm really not sure which one is more exciting though. Help me out!

I'm sure there's going to be people complaining about TF2's cartoony style, but I love it.

And Portal looks nuts. Absolutely crazymad.

And Portal looks nuts. Absolutely crazymad.Indeed. I've already encountered people that are calling TF2 crap before they have actually played it. To be it looks like a breath of fresh air, fresh air that moves into a gaming world that has proven rather stale as of late. People wanted a realistic military shooter like the TF2 of 1999 promised. I really don't see the need for another realistic military shooter, what I do see the need for is genuinely mad fun.

And I agree with you on Portal. I really can't wait for that game. It sounds like it'll even include Adrian Shephard. ^^ The gun is called the ASHPD. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

I love the look of TF2. IGN described it as looking kind of like action figures and I have to agree. I never understood the realistic shooter thing anyway when TF2 was originally announced since that pretty much represents everything the series isn't. Give me superbly done team action in the cartoony TF style over another realistic team shooter any day. There's far too many of those these days frankly.

And Portal looks amazing. I love that it's totally seemless from the looks of it. Literally like walking across a room instead of being zapped somewhere, and the gameplay possibilities stagger my mind. This pretty much confirms my belief that Valve is the only company actually innovating in the FPS genre anymore.

I really want this game, but that requires me to buy HL2 again, is it only an extra with HL2 or will be it released completely seperate ?
Anyways, I take it theres no story and the game is strictly a logical thinking game.....

Aren't double-threads wonderful?

No, they're not. Don't make threads that already exist and then link to them in the old one, that's ridiculous. -Necronopticous

@Dreddz: You just need to buy Episode 2, which doesn't require the original Half Life 2 to run.

Merged.

I've been waiting for TF2 for a long time now. Portal looks interesting, although there seems to be no real story, more like another Lost Coast to showcase new technology. Multiplayer will be fun though.

Well I liked Half Life 2, and i'm sure episode 2 will be cool... but portal interestes me even more!

I really wanna play around with that... and from what I'm hearing, the game 'portal' comes packaged with HL2 EP 2, and also takes place in the HL universe, so maybe we'll see some crossover with the devices? maybe the portal gun will have its place in the actual game itself? cause that would be great! *imagines multiplayer* XD

I did some research on Portal, its based on (and made by the same guys that made) Narbacular Drop, which is a (oldish graphics) short game (probably made for a college project) that uses the same concept (controlling 2 portals to solve puzzles). In fact, Valve actually hired the guys that made Narbacular Drop, to make Portal for them!
If you'd like to download this game to try out the portals yourself go here:

I can't wait for Portal to come out! ^_~

I'm very, very happy to be getting Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal for the 360 for, I believe, sixty bucks. HL2 will even have Valve's new dynamic lighting and stuff built-in, which I think they've added to the Source engine only recently, so it'll actually look better than the PC version, which is by no means shabby in its own right.

Seems like the Fans have beaten Valve/NMS at their own game! Litterally!
Some of you might have seen the Gmod HL2 mod, to make it have portals... Its not great, and its buggy... and u can't really see through the portals... I don't recommend u waste ur time on it...

But here, Behold the Exite Mod, by those who brought you the Pilotable Strider Mod.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrqO7glcWXA
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwe2klXC8_Y
Their homepage:
http://www.stridermod.com/

These guys have created a MUCH better HL2 Mod for portals, compareable to the Portal game itself. Includes it all! See through portals, physics through portals, smooth walk through (so it seems like its a real portal), seeing portals through other portals. The effect around the portals are different, but still dam good!

And to a degree, this is even BETTER than portal (although once Portal comes out, someone will mod this feature into it anyway) This portal mod HAS MULTIPLAYER!!!

In Multiplayer mode, each player can controll 2 portals of their own, to reak havok on other players. I can't wait! *evil grin*

Now all we have to do, is wait for this mod to come out!!! *prays it doesn't require Steam*

All Half-Life mods require Steam and HL/2 to play.

This might be interesting considering Valve pushed back the release of Episode 2, along with Portal and TF2, into Q1 2007.
