It will be quite difficult to maintain FFXI friendships if two friends are on different servers, be sure to get a World Pass if you want to join any friends you make.

To get a World Pass you must get a friend in the server you want to join and get them to purchase a World Pass, they will get a code that you must punch in before you are assigned your random server and you will be able to join your friend in that server.
