Pneumoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniconeosis. That's definitely spelled wrong, but I memorized how to say that word a while ago (I didn't cheat, I swear). It's some kind of lung disease caused by inhaling volcano ash.

EDIT: So long VBulletin put a space in for me :p

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. That word is very ironic.

Antidisestablishmentarianism...

EDIT:

Pneumoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniconeo sis. That's definitely spelled wrong, but I memorized how to say that word a while ago (I didn't cheat, I swear). It's some kind of lung disease caused by inhaling volcano ash.
I thought that had been proven to be a hoax word... Eh. Maybe not. I dunno.

No, it's a lung disease caused by inhaling particles of silica.

Yeah, I thought the disease itself was made up.

EDIT: Nevermind. I checked it out. It exists.

Isn't the word hiccup onomatopoeia?

It's the medical term. We normally call it Hikke.

And you're the onomatopoeia imho.

Floccinaucicihilipification. It's not particularly long, but it makes up for it by being quite easy to fit into everyday conversation.

Q. What is the longest word in the dictionary?
A. It depends . . .
It might be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (which appears in the Oxford English Dictionary), unless you want to count names of diseases (such as 'pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis', defined by the OED as "a factitious word alleged to mean 'a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust' but occurring chiefly as an instance of a very long word"), places (such as 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch', a village in Wales), chemical compounds (apparently there is one that is 1,913 letters long), and also a few words found only in Joyce's Finnegans Wake.

Other words famous for being sesquipedalian:

antidisestablishmentarianism ("opposition to the disestablishment of the Church of England")
floccinaucinihilipilification
honorificabilitudinitatibus (Which appears in Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost, and which has been cited as [dubious] evidence that Francis Bacon wrote Shakespeare's plays)
Or perhaps smiles is the longest word — after all, there is a mile between the first letter and the last.

I like the end... smiles!

Off the top of my head? Pericombobulations. Not sure if it's even a real word! There's also antidisestablishment, actually. Which is longer. So there you go.

EDIT: Turns out you can extend that last word with an 'arianism' but I couldn't remember that bit.

A lot of people make it seem like antidisestablishmentarianism is a hard word to spell, but it's really not. All ya have to do is sound it out! It's easier than many small words.
