With less than one month to go until the start of the new season, I guess it's time to kick off this year's EoFF Premiership Fantasy Football league!

So, like we did season before last, I decided to go with http://premier.fantasy-manager.co.uk. If you've played with them previously your account should still be active.

If you don't want to pay, make sure you register an 'Amateur' team.

Anyway... the details:

League: The EoFF League
Password: eoff

Current players on http://premier.fantasy-manager.co.uk/ are:

FC Skogs (Skogs)
Peepulation Brigade (tomamar04)
Airys Heroes (Sora!)

AMATEUR TEAMS - 'Amateur' free teams are given 1 transfer each month. You are only allowed to register one Amateur team per entrant.

PROFESSIONAL TEAMS - 'Professional' paid for teams are allocated an extra 4 transfers a month, giving them a total of 5 transfers a month. You may pay to have an unlimited number of Professional, paid for teams.

PROFESSIONAL TEAMS benefit from personalised monthly emails per team, giving you information on your best/worst players, best valued players in the game and Premiership news. This gives you a competitive edge - as you can pick your players based on their real life performance.

Amateur team's can also top up their transfers each month by purchasing 'Emergency Transfer Kits':

£1.50 for 2 extra transfers

Amateur Teams can purchase a maximum of 2 'Emergency Kits' per month.

Boy, that took a while. I'm still new to a lot of these players, so my team will probably suffer as a result. It got tough to round out the last few players as funds ran dry.

Team: New York Footballers

Manager: Mark Hughes, Blackburn

Kepper: Jussi Jaaskelainen, Bolton
D: Christian Dailly, West Ham
D: Rio Ferdinand, Man United
D: Rodrigo Defendi, Tottenham (With a name like that, he cried out to be chosen)
D: Chris Riggott, Middlesbrough
MF: Damien Francis, Watford
MF: Steven Gerrard, Liverpool
MF: Leon Osman, Everton
MF: Steven Davis, Aston Villa
S: Jason Roberts, Blackburn
S: Robbie Keane, Tottenham

I honestly only know about 4 of these players, so I have no idea how good or bad this team is. I'll try to research things, but in the end, it's just for fun. Though, if anyone can see any obvious weaknesses, such as a player is already out with injury or has no shot at starting, feel free to point it out.

Take care all.

Wise in choosing Hughesy as manager, the favourite to take over at Manure when Ferguson retires.

Though i would say the team is pretty average.

Cristian Dailly, no, you have to get rid! he is crap, he wont play hardly this season.

You really want someone great in each section.

Like Brad Friedel, Petr Cech, Shay Given or Van Der Sar in goals.

Deffinately have John Terry in defence,

Gerrard will be great in midfield.

You really need someone up front who going to bang in the goals frequently like Herny, Shevchenko.

A great player in each section will help you greatly.

Take a look at my team for an example, which is somewhere above.

For the price of one star forward, I can get three star defenders. Hence I go for a more star-studded back five, an aggressive mid-field and two proven goalscorers from some of the lesser teams. That way I'll have five players regularly netting me points, and if the strikers score a few, then its a bonus.

If anyone wants to set up an EoFF league on another site (yahoo or similar), then go for it! I have a team on premierleague.com. If you create it, I'll add it to the original post.

**Edit**
See the first post for an alternative league, if you're interested.

Loony BoB

Thrown a team together, here's BoB's Bunch...

Manager: Paul Jewell (Wigan)

Keeper: Ben Foster (Man United)
Defenders: Ibrahima Sonko (Reading), Adrian Mariappa (Watford), John Terry (Chelsea), Chris Makin (Reading)
Midfield: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Giuseppe Rossi (Man United), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man United), Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United)
Strikers: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Man United), Wayne Rooney (Man United)

Obviously I'm going for the attacking option, because to be honest I've never done this before and I felt like going with the guns. Terry and Foster make a good defence though, even if Foster might not start many games (might even be starting for Watford!).

Yahoo! has started up their fantasy league... anyone interested in that one?

For me it's important that all my team are regular starters. A mid-table first-choice keeper will earn more points that Chelsea's second-choice.

If this site doesn't update for the transfers (the ones that have happened IRL) soon I'm going to be pretty annoyed.

I've made a few small changes to my side - Ole is dropped for now to make room for that Aurelio chap who caught my interest in the CS game. I need to change my keeper but the damned thing won't let me. Oh, and Ole is now out of my side, as much as I hated to do it.

Robinson? I'd struggle to find Robinson a place in the top 10 keepers in the Premiership. Lehmann is woefully inconsistent, and it's no surprise to me that Arsenal were sniffing around Buffon. As for the other three, you might have a case.

I connsider Lehmann to be the second best keeper in the world. But that may just be personal opinion. And, well, Robinson has always played well for Tottenham, so it's hard to insult him. He just doesn't play well in International competitions. Much like m'boy Lampy.

Does it matter? I think all he's paid to do is put the ball in the net, and even if its done by deflection (Which he is the king of btw), it's still a goal. And there's nothing wrong with deflections. :mad2:

Without Shay Given, Newcastle would be down and out in the championship. With the excuse of a def they got, putting Stevey H in goal would be suicide, except kamikaze style, taking the rest of the team with him. I'd say he's as big a heroic legend of St James's Park as Alan Shearer was. Given's got the rest of his career to give to Newcastle and Ireland. If only those guys could get a strikeforce as good as England then we'd have some more Irish trouble... There's gonna be much better goal keepers in the future, Van Der Sar and even good ol' Lehmann will be outshadowed eventually. Is it even possible to outshadow Robinson further? I mean, he's losing his grip. You forgot Liverpool have got a titan of a goalkeeper themselves. The reason Shay's good is because he's been used to working so hard with a poor defence. Add in a decent defence for Newcastle and just maybes they could go for a top 4 spot. Titus Bramble can make any Newcastle fan have a heart attack, he can do some good when he gets off his fat lazy arse and does something. It's gotta be so humiliating to a team's pride to concede a goal from Titus Bramble. Anyone want him? I'll seriously respect anyone's gambling skills if they put Bramble in their lineup. Anyone gonna do it? Anyone daring enough to do it?

I've been meaning to say Lampard was not all that for some time now but I didn't think anyone would agree with me. Yes, his dismal shot-to-goal ratio at the World Cup only confirms to me how poorly he might perform if he left Chelseea to play overseas

I check it every now and then.

One transfer per month makes it very boring and gives little room to make things interesting, though. I prefer Metro's fantasy football, where you get loads of transfers and can plan things out a lot better.

EDIT: That and the fact that apperently 5-3-2 is the formation that should be used by every manager in the country, according to this thing. What's up with that? I say next season we all agree to use the same formation, it would make things much more interesting for everyone and require much more football knowledge than it would require fantasy-football knowledge.

I'd probably not check it more than a few times a month if I was winning, too, since I can't exactly do anything about it until a transfer becomes available. :p

Well I usually check it every Sunday/Monday after the games to see how many points i've got, but it is a bit of a bugger not having any transfers, but eh, I think it's because that website gives you a prize if you win or something so they don't want to make it too easy for people to get mass scores.

Though, I would agree to using the Metro one next season.

Yes, definitely use a different system next year. I'll defer the decision to someone else... I check once a week after the games to see who's catching up on me, and I have a bit more in-depth look in deciding who to transfer at the beginning of the month.

It seems to be working pretty well for me so far. Obviously knowing a bit of the ins and outs of the way this fantasy football league works is as important as football knowledge itself, but I imaging that would be the same regardless of which system we used.

I actually think we might be better off doing a Prediction League next season, since it's a little more involving than a fantasy setup (particularly this one, where you make your transfers for the month and then sit back and do nothing). I don't know of any sites where you can set up your own league, but the good thing about that is that it's something we can do ourselves with a bit of effort.

Although maybe I'm saying that because my team's been hanging around fifth place for most of the season now, and isn't showing any signs of improvement. :p

As I said earlier on, we just need a league where you can do more. If you have one transfer per month, yes, it's going to be boring and annoying. If you can make three transfers in a week or two, it's much more interesting. Of course, I don't see why we can't do both a fantasy league and a predictions league, although I'm unsure if I'll get involved in the latter.

I'd just like to find a middle ground between the one we have now and last year's Yahoo system, where in order to be competitive you basically had to build your team from scratch every week. Anyway, so long as we're not using this version again next year then I'll be happy. After all, if we're already talking about next season's competition with half the season still to go, I'd say that's pretty indicative of the quality of this system.

Admittedly I've sucked at it so far this season, but it's been interesting either way.

- Free
- Emails once every month or so detailing who in your side is suspended, injured etc.
- And as for transfers...

Before the start of the season, you can make unlimited changes to your team. However, once the season is in progress, you can make up to three transfers within each individual transfer window but have a maximum of 50 transfers across the whole season. Remember the total cost of your team at any stage during the Game cannot exceed £55million.
