If you ever want to be able to *not* use kodak's easy share software with your camera, I would reccomend you not buying one. They're very. . insistent on making you use their software, I've found.

But if you're positive, explore this page's links: http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Kodak+5+MP+EasyShare+V550+Digital+Camera&btnG=Search+Froogle

and also this one's http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=5mp+camera&btnG=Search&lmode=online&cat=474&price1=&price2=225.00&lnk=prsugg

If you want a camera for something non-professional, I'd definitely recommend a Sony Cyber-shot. They're very good. Only problem I have with my Sony Cyber-shot is the zoom (mine is only 3x) and the fact that I want to do more professional photography, so I have to save up for a professional camera. But the latter isn't an actual problem with the cam itself. :p Good luck.

I use an Easyshare, and I don't have a problem. I only use the software to transfer the pictures, and I use Photoshop or ACDSee to resize, crop, de-red eye the pictures.

*Shrugs* I would be irritated at having to use software to transfer pictures in the first place, since they can be drag'n'dropped from the camera or transferred with XP's built in wizard xD

I got that camera (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4722917) recently. For the use I make, it's quite good, and cheap to boot. As far as transfering pictures go, it can act as a usb drive or a digital camera as far as XP is concerned. It takes SD (and MMC, it seems) cards for extra memory, and can even record videos.

www.dpreview.com has great reviews and info.

As for cameras, Canon makes a number of excellent entry-level digital cameras.

Canon A70

They don't make it anymore, but getting one of the same "A" series cameras may be a good choice.

I use my Sony Cyber-Shot for all of my photography, which is on my dA as well. Mine is a bit old, so it's not made anymore, but they make newer better versions of it. :)

Kodak Easyshare Z700. I've had no problem with it.
