View Full Version : Will you still use this Forum when you're 50 years old?

The Devil Man
08-02-2006, 09:25 PM
This Thread is inspired by the 'I'm so Old!' Thread' :D I was reading through that and I was kinda surprised how many young guys and gals use this Forum. The other day I checked thorugh some other Threads and I see some people have been using this Forum for many years...

So I was wondering... take a look into the future... take a niiiiiiice, deeeeeeep, loooooooooong look into the years to come and ask ya'selves...

Do you think you'll still be using this Forum when you are 50 years old (Or older)? Or... do you think you'll be using it when you are 60... or even 70... or 80, 90, maybe even a 100? :erm: :whoa:

I might be... if they're still making Final Fantasy games then... awww, hell, they'll definetly make Final Fantasy 125, so I'll definetly be still around! :kaohappy2:

How about you lot?

Rye
08-02-2006, 09:25 PM
Oh god, I hope not. xD

I wouldn't mind keeping in contact with some people I like here though. :)

I don't know. Ask me in 25 years.

Actually, I really wouldn't know. I'll probably be here as long as this site is still up and running.

EoFF is like AIDS - it just doesn't go away. It always sticks around and reminds me of itself so even if I were to leave for months I would be compelled to visit again.

Also like AIDS, EoFF has no known cure.

Oh, Dellas, good for a laugh you are. I'll be here for a long while yet! Maybe as long as the forum is up, so... 5, 10 years maybe? Or until the Final Fantasy series ends. Who knows when that'll be.

Yoshix

I havent actively posted here for like 3 years
Just came back for a visit though...hehe
Probably stop by once in awhile as long as ff has any relevance.

Ill stay on here for however long I stay intrested in Final Fantasy and gaming in general. The question for should be " Will you still be playing Video games when your 50+ "
It's very unlikely though :p

Venom
08-02-2006, 09:43 PM
Is the site even going to be around in 50 years?

08-02-2006, 09:47 PM
I probably won't.

fallen_angel9000
08-02-2006, 09:48 PM
idk.... it depends on if it sticks to me for that long. i'll still be here for a couple of years though:p . i just love EoFF:love:

Is the site even going to be around in 50 years?

thats a good question:confused:

I am not sure...

I suppose that as long as the site continues to run in a well and good manner, than yes, I can definately see such a thing occuring in that I would stick around another 32 years.

However, if the site began to lose its roots, and become overrun by utterly incompetent, uncaring, immature individuals, then I would readily leave without a second thought, though such an occassion would sadden me.

DK
08-03-2006, 12:42 AM
If it's still around, probably yes. Regardless of what the future may hold, the internet will probably always be here, and while I think even now a lot of us no longer bother to discuss Final Fantasy games, most of my online friends come here and the general discussion forums, for films, music and so forth, will always probably be the place i'll be most comfortable discussing those things online. So yeah, I probably will be.

kikimm
08-03-2006, 12:48 AM
Eh....maybe. But I'd feel really weird. Since new young people would be coming in all the time, and I'm not sure I'd be able to connect with them. I don't really get along with older people NOW. But yeah like others have said I'd like to keep in touch with my friends here. I don't really need to come here to do that, though.

Hell by then roto and bipper will be running it. I dont know though. I enjoy this site and when not having any obligations in life and so so much free time this is not a bad site so I wouldnt mind staying here for awhile but once I enter into a more mature and evolved grown up world I am not sure....Ill be doing other things . I might drop in from time to time to post though. 50 is pretty old I cant imagine my interests being the same...

I'll probably still be around when I'm 30, that's only 9 more years, and I can see myself playing games occationally at that age. At 40, I probably won't be very active anymore, I might still play games now and then, and come back for nostalgia. 50, I honestly don't know. I'll give you a definite maybe.

By the time I'm fifty, the internet will be so incredibly advanced that sites like this exist only for posterity's sake. Our forums of the time will be so well-made that they will either exist in real space through foglets, or they will be VR facsimilies which interface directly with our nervous systems and are indistinguishable from reality.

We'll also become so powerful through various mental enhancement that we will be able to have discussions in hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of threads at the same time.

Zeldy pretty much said what I was going to say. But, I might come back from time to time just for the sake of it, though I'd probably still just read threads and almost never post like I do now. And who knows, I might still actually still be around for real, I mean, I'm pretty sure I'll still be playing video games by then, but I'm not a total forum person, this is the only one that ever interested me.

The only way I'd still be breathing at fifty, is if I still looked like a teenager, an was in fine physical condition. So I very much doubt I'll be here. It would be hilarious if everyone was still here as old fogies. An whenever a young newbie arrived, you'd ban them. it would be the internet equivalent of when old people tell you to stay off their property. EOFF could then stand for eyes on final fogies. An people would keep making the same threads over an over, because their senile. General chat would be used to discuss such things as the weather, heated blankets, what brand of denture fluid is best, an what's your favourite type of boiled sweet. The lounge would probably just consist of topics about gameshows an murder mystery programmes. An for serious issues such as incontinence, you'd head over to EOEO. So years on, EOEO would still be full of *snip*.

It's hilarious how nearly every post in this thread is about how pathetic it would be to be doing something you're enjoying in your youth many years from now. I find that many people say the same things about video games and pretty much everything else that is a good time in its infancy.

Video games are still a new thing, we are all among the first generation of people who will be playing video games when we're fifty-plus. We're the generation of people who will be posting on video game-centric Internet forums when we're fifty-plus. Just because your parents or grandparents didn't grow up in a generation where these things were such a large part of their youth doesn't mean that it's going to be that way forever.

If Eyes on Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy still exist in thirty years, I'll be happy to be posting here. If it has since died out, I'll be on another Final Fantasy forum when I'm not enjoying the games. If it is genuinely so pathetic to you all to be playing games or posting on a message board that focuses on them, just give it up now. What are you waiting for?

If I'm anything like the vast majority of the fifty-plus people I encounter on a daily basis, then you can track me down and kill me.

necro brings up an interesting point. The longest that anyone has ever been on the internet is at most 20-30 years, depending on what you call 'internet'. How many of the people who first used Compuserv are still around?

You could almost compare it to people who grew up watching television or movies. Do they still watch tv? Probably. Do they still go to movie theaters? Probably.
