I like Zell better. Actually it was a tie, but I figured what the heck, why not. Squall was one of the best protagonists and Zell was the best side-kick.

Zell is better, because, well, Zell is better.

But I think Squall is nice, character-wise. If you stop 'emo-bashing' him, you'd probably enjoy his development throughout the story.

Zeromus is absolutely correct. 'Zell is better because, well, Zell is better.' Fellow Zell fan. Squall and Zell both have their ups and downs, but Zell's character is more likeable and Squall is ...whatever.

I like Squall's personality better, he's tolerable most of the time. I find Zell extremely annoying at times.

Squall is someone who got thrust in to a leadership position before he was ready and then just as he thinks "hey I can do this maybe" Seifer and Edea show up in Gabaldia Garden and the world goes crazy, would any 17year old cope any bloody better? I don't think I would have at 17 and I'm great with pressure.

I think Squall is a good character overall. He develops well through out the stroy from a cold, antisocial character into one who is a good leader and can open up more to certain people.

Squall is Squall, and personally the fur suits him well, he's like a character who doesn't really like to worry about things and yet he gets caught in all of this. He is my favorite character on the game. Zell is funny but at the same time not.

I so far have enjoyed all the central characters in the Final Fantasies I have played (VI, VII, & VIII).

I liked Squall because I could relate with the things he would think but never say. We all have moments in the day where we want to say, "I can't believe this load of crap they are telling me, I can see right through it." Squall was very preceptive like this. I love characters that have foresight, excellent perceptive qualities, and infinite wisdom. (Vincent in FF7). Squall was a man with many thoughts unexpressed, as we all are.

Seeing his internal thoughts like this made me feel like I truly understood and knew the character.
