We've all got stuff that we look forward to, right? Even in the chat room earlier, it was clear a few people were preparing for the phenomenon that is Snakes on a Plane. Some other guy said it was 5 days to the release of [i]Dirge of Cerberus. But when does anticipation become overkill?

When's the right time to start a countdown? Does it depend on the magnitude of whatever it is you're looking forward to? I remember Mandee counting down from 100 days to her wedding day. So yeah, discuss.

Countdown to NFL Regular Season. It's coming :cool:

Yeah I believe it depends on the magnitude. I mean the years are being counted down until the sun explodes and that's not due for I don't know how many years. But I'm not going to do a countdown for something like the next time I go get ice cream, it's not that important.

I have no countdown. :(

I'd say 2-4 weeks is the earliest you can start a countdown without seeming crazy, unless it's something major, like with Shlup and her wedding countdown.

If it's more than a month away, I prefer to just try not to think about it too much, otherwise the wait just becomes increasingly unbearable.

I'm counting down to my graduation, which is in 43 weeks and 2 days, which is 303 days, I think. ^_^

I usually start counting down at the 10 seconds before each year. (http://www.loki7.com/countdown)

No kidding :( 70 days and 60 days and 50 days and 40 days might as well all be in next year!

Counting down til the day I move into my own apartment. Which should be anywhere between 4 weeks to 8 weeks. Living with my parents is painful. ;_;

The second I found out the next time I would get to see Amanda, I started counting the days. I didn't want to, as I knew that would make it seem longer. But I just couldn't help it. Now that it's down to 7 days it seems bearable!

It depends on the importance of the thing you're counting down too, relative to the person. Counting down from 100 to your birthday is pretty weird in general, since it happens every year. But counting down to FFXII from 100 is totally cool. Although I haven't been... let's see... approximately 85 days (I may be wrong). :exdee:

I usually start countdowns when I'm at a relative low point in life. That gives me something to look forward to, even if its extremely far away and I forget about it after I feel better. Of course, this isn't using a countdown in an anticipatory manner so much as it is using a countdown in an escapist manner. So as far as anticipatory countdowns go, I'd say you shouldn't look forward to something more in advance than its worth. Graduating is big enough to start counting down from maybe 6 months away, while waiting for a movie shouldn't be more than 2-3 weeks. Waiting for a game could be like a month. I don't really know, I just make countdowns when the time is right.

Starting a countdown is like starting a slow clap. You just know...

Anyway, I sort of have a countdown, but I dont know when exactly the event is coming. Hence the "Sword of Damocles" thread...:(
