Whats your opinion on rap/hiphop music? And your favorite artist if you do like it.

I personally like listening to them, if they got a nice beat to it. If its just a song with all rapping but horrible background music then I wont like it. My favorite artist is Kanye West.

I really don't like rap/hiphop. It's too loud and the lirics these days are bleh.

I like stuff with a good beat and I think artists like Missy Elliot, Eminem and TLC are awesome. But a lot of it I find boring with the lyrics, subject of songs, the way they all dress up in the videos..I have nothing against that type of culture but doesn't appeal to me as something to go out of my way to listen to. I'd probably never actually go out and buy it (although I have a TLC album).

I like hip hop, not such a fan of rap, though. It also really bugs me when people generalize hip hop. "LOZL I HAET RAP N HIP HOP MANG ITZ ALL ABUT GUNZ N BITCHZ N BLING BLING!!1"

WRONG. Ugh. Anyway, My favourite artists are:

Common
Roots Manuva
Beastie Boys
Jin the Emcee
Nas
De La Soul
Ketsumeishi (J-rap, whatever, I love it)
Lupe Fiasco
Naughty by Nature
Cypress Hill

I think that should about cover it. Common is my favourite hip hop at the moment.

I like some good rap and hip hop - though I only listen to a select few of artists though. I really, really am into Kanye West and Outkast. I do like Eminem, but rarely listen to his stuff anymore. I like a lot of the BEP, but they do have a few hits and misses *cough My Humps and London Bridge cough*. Amerie has a beautiful voice and great songs/lyrics. Love her. Other than that, I like a lot of other songs from a various artists.

Are you by any chance a backpacker? Don't mean to generalize, but any list that has Common, Lupe Fiasco, and De La Soul screams backpacker to me.

Anyway, even though I'm a real varied person when it comes to music, hip hop and rap was my first love. I tend to mostly like rap from the South seeing as that is where I live. As far as rappers that are above the Mason-Dixon Line, I like Nas, Fat Joe, and Lloyd Banks. I also like some West Coast rap, especially The Game.

Pretty much the only music I listen to, I like too many artists to name them. Although for people who thinks Hip Hop and Rap is all guns, crime and asses then you are very misunderstood. The very commercial Hip Hop and Rap are what give Hip Hop its image. If people looked deeper into the genre then you'd see Hip Hop and Rap are alot different than what people stereotype it to be.

I think some people have lost there edge, many of the commercial rappers you see today actually used to be good, but some have spiraled downwards. Jay Z is one in particular, Im listening to an old set with him and Big L and Jay Z isnt half as good now as he was then.

I would also recommend UK Hip Hop, arists like Sway, Roots Manuva, Kyza, Taskforce, Rodney P, Skinnyman, Klashnekoff and Phil Life Cypher should all be looked into...

Kwan (You can hear samples) (http://www.last.fm/music/Kwan) is a finnish hiphop band. Theres a guy who raps, but theres also guitars in some songs. The only reason I like them is their linked with The Rasmus :D~

And some finnish pop bands like PMMP, TikTak, Indica and Kaksio.

I have a passing interest in Hip-Hop music, in that I like it and listen to it when it comes on the radio, but I don't have an expansive collection. I'll probably start getting into it seriously some day, though.

I like oldschool better, but some of the present stuff is really good. My current favorite is Lupe Fiasco. Of course, a lot of the new stuff isn't as good as the old stuff, especially the mainstream music. I still think it's pretty awesome though.

No one in this thread knows about good music.

Bay rap is easily the best people like

E-40
Keak da sneak
Mac dre
Zion-I
Mista fab
The federation

Hyphy movement.

Mainstream bitches like 50cent and pdidy are the worst.

I love rap and hip hop. Especially the old stuff like Grandmaster Flash, and early 90s Dre and Ice Cube. Biggie was a great lyricist, as well as Nas and Cypress Hill, some of the newer stuff is just as great, I think Eminem's style is awesome, as well as Kanye West.

And yet you like Hyphy. That's funny.

I don't like nearly any of the new stuff. Older stuff like 2Pac and Dr. Dre is great though.

EDIT: A few new artists I do like are Common, Wyclef Jean, and Talib Kweli. Especially Talib.

This is the exact genre of music I dislike, and by reaching no 1 in the UK what does that say about the future of our music? No wonder TOTP was cancelled

I'm just not terribly fond of the musical style, and a lot of what's saturating the mainstream is so inherently bad it doesn't really do much to improve my opinion of it.

I find that most of the stuff saturating the mainstream is R&B, which is teh suhk.

I've always loved underground rap like Mr. Lif, Aesop Rock, Dr. Octagon, Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, and of course the supervillain himself MF DOOM to name some of the bigger names.

Honestly, the mainstream rap that's released these days seems so shallow compared to their underground peers. To me, without the thought of making a "hit" in their minds, underground MC's and producers tend to be more imaginative and are willing to take more creative license in their sound.

Not a fan of rap, maybe the odd song, like Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" and Still by Dr Dre, but the only one im fond of really, and i think it's quite a loose connection, is Rage Against The Machine.

EDIT:And also Audioslave
