Which game has the best music?

I looked. Did not see this topic anywhere. Hopefully it hasnt been made recently. It's still a good question though.

"Which Final Fantasy has the best music?"

Im going to include the FF6 games and onwards. I seriously doubt that ff5 and below has better music than any of the more recent games. If you disagree, theres an 'other' option for you.

Help me settle my dispute.

Final Fantasy IX had my favorite soundtrack. However, saying FFV and the games before that seriously couldn't have better music than the FFs after that sounds a bit weird, considering there are many who think Uematsu's best work was during the SNES times and that it's been getting worse after FFVI or FFVII.

I think FFIII has better music than most of the series, and it's for the Famicom. Better quality sound doesn't necessarily equal better tunes, for me.

I like FFIII, FFVI, and FFVIII's music the best.

Edit: Tactics has some very great music as well.

FFX! I loved practically everything in that game. There were a few that I liked in the other ones, but I loved nearly all the music in X.

FFVIII is my favorite FF and the soundtrack is great, but FFIX's soundtrack is simply amazing. FFIII and FFV also deserve honorable mentions.

Overall, FFVIII is the best. There are better songs on some of the other soundtracks, but FFVIII is consistently very good, with very few poor or bad filler pieces.

6 then 7 for me for overall soundtracks :p Though all the others have a good number decent tracks smattered amongst their scores somewhere, even right down through the NES ones :p Except X-2, that OST stinks :p

Don't doubt the old games. Though you certainly have reason to considering the weight the newer ones carry. But if you've ever listened to a FF compilation... Crystal Prelude, and whatever the love theme from FF4 is are staples in FF music. And that one other from FF4, the heroic sounding one. Its played during almost every FF ending. I totally remember it being included in part of the credits in FF8

But yeah, as for personal opinion, I'd say FF7. Though FF6 is the main contender for my musical heart. Nothing has sounded more mysteriously enchanting to me than FF7's Can You Hear the Cry of the Planet, in the lost city of the ancients. But really, nothing can touch Terra's theme. And Kefka's was awesome ... and the Veldt xD

I voted for Final Fantasy VI in the poll. I do like most of the soundtracks of the Final Fantasy games, but the one that I like least of all is the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack. It had a few songs that I liked, but less so than other the Final Fantasy games listed in the poll.

IX has my favorit ost out off all the FFs. Everything sounded dramatic and I thought that was a plus. The battle theam is amazing, the boss theam is kinda sub-par, but it's ok non-theless. All of the special battle theams sound cool and The Darkness Messenger is a "We will rock you remix" which you can't go wrong with. the town theams fit every town perfictly and I thought that it was all great.

I couldn't decide between X and XI. The music in X reminds me of those emotional moments, or just the event... It's kinda nice and nostalgic.

But XI, part of the reason I play the game is because of the atmosphere and the strange areas you come into, the music complimenting the area... (Some music sucks of course, like jeuno and sandoria [hiss])...

But I really love the music in Caedarva Mire and Arrapago Reef ;_;...

FFIX's soundtrack is my favourite videogaming track ever. Practically every track is great...and I mean it. FFVII is my next best. FFX has a few good tracks, and so does FFVIII, but they are nowhere near as good as FFIX.

I don't like it when we have to vote about something that is about all FF's, including I till V, and those FF aren't in teh choice list. But okay, that aside.

FF IX gets my vote. I liked every track in it. But these are the ones I like most: Boss Battle, The Dark Messenger, Final Battle, Melodies of Life, the Memory Place and The Sword of Doubt.

FF III and V come second. Every track in it is great. It's amazing what beautiful tracks the NES could bring up for FF III. And V had some classics as well. Who doesn't like "Battle with Gilgamesh" (Or "Clash on The Big Bridge", it's the same)?

FF VIII comes third. Those Final Boss track are amazing (The Legendary Beast, Maybe I'm a Lion and The Extreme)! The hole OST is good but I don't find every song spectacular, something I had with IX, and with most tracks in V and III, which is why VIII comes third.

How do hi-res graphics improve the sound quality? Music is something you hear, not something you look at. :p I actually thought FFX's synth quality was quite bad. There's something about its sound that was annoying my ears a lot, even with those FFX songs that I like.

The battle theme of FFVII is called "Fighting" or "Those who fight". The boss battle theme is called "Still more fighting" or "Those who fight further".
