FFVIII is a pretty good game, although if you've played games like FFX don't expect the same graphics/story quality/gameplay.

FF8 is my favorite! And it's so confusing I actually understand it! :D You should totally get it. :shoot:

I would buy FFVIII first, simply because it will make the graphical transition easier when you play FFVII. The graphics in FFVII really are terrible.

I think it's funny when people go to a forum for a specific game and ask the people in that forum if they should buy that game. You might only get the input from people who love the game, so of course their opinions about it would be the same... but you don't get the input from people who've played the game and disliked it. Therefore, some will like the game, and some will not, so getting others' opinions doesn't really help you much, because you might be disappointed.

Well, I've noticed quite a few forum specific threads being moved out of General FF despite the requests of the author, so it's not really possible to post it anywhere else.

Besides, I've been on plenty of forums where people who despise a game still post in its forum. Half the people who post in the FFVII forum on FFShrine absolutely despise it. I think Advent Children was a terrible movie and I still post in that forum here. There seems to be not too few people who hate FFX-2 that post in that forum as well. It's not just fans that look in here; /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif-stirrers do as well.

Of course you should. VII and VIII have way better battle systems than IX and are thoroughly more enjoyable IMHO

If you are a fan of FF, you should try them all. Of course you will like some more than others, but...see if you can find someone with a copy and borrow it. I'm one who is reluctant to name a favorite. There are aspects of all the FF games I've played that I like (one of the most important being the fact that they are all RPG's ). So yeah, I would say get VIII and VII, and any others you can get hold of.

Seriously, I think you should get the game. What is it, like 10 bucks off the internet or something? But anyways, I love the game. This is the 5th or 6th time of me playing it all the way through and I'm never sick of it. I'm learning new things about the game that I never knew. And it is SO much fun if you don't cheat or look up GF information or anything and just play as you go without getting help and not knowing anything about the game beforehand. That's something I haven't had the privledge of doing but it's still very good.

Sometimes I go into the ff9 forum to tell people how boring it is :)

If you're a dumb boy, you probably wont' like ff8 too much. But if you're a dumb boy with a bit of a romantic touch to your heart, you'll probably love it.

If you're interested in military schools, witches, and cool retro 90s things, you'll enjoy ff8.

IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!! :kaolove2: :kaolove: :kaohappy2 :monkey:

FVII was really confusing at times, and FFVIII is SOOO much better!!! :thumb: I'm not saying FFVII is bad, but I enjoyed FFVIII A LOT more. :moomba: :choc2:

Your friends are mean and all. But yeah both FFVii and FFViii are very hard to find. So go with FVIII anyways cause it's cute and the graphics aren't as bad as Vii, the storyline in FFVii is good but not the best in my opinion. Go with Viii oh and FFVii's graphics look like legos or toy soliders.

Well, of course, compared to the graphics in FF X, those of FF VII, or even FF VIII cannot begin to compare (what's gonna be fun is for those who will start with FF XIII and will have to go all the way back to FF VII - their eyes might hurt a lot :p). I remember though that when I got FF VIII, at the time of its release, everyone was in complete awe (especially since FF VIII had the first really amazing-looking CG scenes with pretty realistic characters).

Nostalgia apart, buy both, but I agree that the transition will be a little easier on you if you start with FF VIII. That being said, both FF VII and FF VIII have gaming systems which are widely different from both the previous and the following FF (FF IX was a kind of step back in that regard), so it may take a little time to get used to it.

Oh, and once you've played them, try FF VI, which still remains the most gratifying FF, IMO (although FF XII arrives dangerously on its heels now :p)

I didn't think so many of you guys would make graphics an issue. You all should be considering everything except that. What makes FF so enjoyable is the truly awesome storylines, characters, and the addicting battles. Their graphics mean nothing, and if you are worried about them so much then you shouldn't be playing FF in the first place.

If you liked 10, then you are REALLY going to love both 7 and 8, since they both make 10 look like a total trash heap (which it is). I would suggest getting both, if you have the time. They are both magnificent in their own ways and you will not regret getting them. If you enjoy those two and want more, then you should also consider getting 6. You can either download it (as FF3 for the SNES), or you can buy Anthology, which has both 5 and 6. 5 isn't that great though.

If your friends say that 8 sucks, then they are total fools and should be punched in the face.

See, my first FF was FF8, and thats why i love FF so much XD

If your still in doubt, check out on GameSpot for Final Fantasy VIII (PSX Version). See the ratings of the ones that played it. Im sure it will make up your mind.

In my opinion, FFVII is the best Final Fantasy (of the 10) and FFVIII is the worst, but that's not to say that FFVIII is a bad game, and that's not to say it's not worth playing, because it is.

Yeah, good idea. Here are the GameSpot reviews for VII (http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/finalfantasy7/review.html?q=Final%20Fantasy%207) and VIII (http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/finalfantasy8/review.html?q=Final%20Fantasy%208).

As you can see, both got a 9.5.

I say stop listening to other people's opinions and buy both games (FFVII and FFVIII) because they're both great games. Matter of fact, don't even listen to this opinion. :shifty: I was never here... But in all seriousness if you liked FFIX then you will probably like FFVIII, because it's got a sappy love story in it. And pick up FFVII as well even though the graphics aren't as impressive as IX's the storyline, music, and battle system are top notch.

Your friends are suffering from ADD and can only play mindless action games. They thought FF8 sucked 'cause they played it for an hour and nothing happened. The beginning of 8 is slow, and some might argue it's boring. But it's a story. It's setting up the plot. 7 took the smart way around this and stuffed the player right down into the thick of it to catch their interest, THEN slowed down for a bit and set up the story. Like selling crack, the first sample's free. If you want more action, you have to sit through the plot development. As RPGs are the story-tellers of the gaming world. Novels. Long ones. And FF8 unfolds slowly so be warned. They both warrant a peek though so go ahead and give 'em a look. I would suggest 7 over 8 but that's just me.

People are naturally going to have trouble getting used to graphics when they go from PS2 to PSX. We're not making out that graphics are the most important part of the game, we're making sure that he actually has incentive to play them.

I don't see why they would. There's not that much of a difference.

Same with mine, but still, FF X's battle looks like VIII's FMV.

I don't know if it looks that good, but it's still a noticable difference. Not as big as, say from PS2 to NES, so it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
