What month did that come from?

I get PSM and don't remember that issue.

Oh and this makes me even more excited about it!

This Gambit system intrigues me to no end... along with these supposed bosses that take hours upon hours to kill...

Thank you, I enjoy reading reviews like this. It kills me that they're reviewing the ENGLISH version, which means it's just sitting there waiting for Dirge of Cerberus to sell as much as possible before they let it out. Rawr!

I'm glad they said there's a lot of cutscenes and story, because I require lots of plot. But just like the import reviews I read, they also complain of little character development... Hmm :( I can sort of see what they mean. In Final Fantasy Tactics, sure Ramza talks a lot, and sure he's there all the time, but the focus is usually not on him exactly but normally just on situations that are happening to him. Er, I guess. Anyway... That's the impression I get that FXII will be like. If I can love the Shadow Hearts characters, some of which barely say anything (Lucia...Vincent... I'm looking at both of you right now), then these characters should be just fine in my book regardless of no past exploration anyway.

Even after reading this I still don't quite get the License Board. I understand how it functions perfectly, but if everybody starts in one spot more or less, and everybody heads off into one direction, and accessories are in one corner while other equipment is in another, well, then how do I license accessories while still licensing other equipment. Ah well, I'm sure it all comes together in the end.

They also say the bosses are super hard. Those judges are gonna give me frustrated nightmares I can tell <3

I think the gambits sound good. It does sound sort of auto-pilot, but that doesn't mean less involvement... It's actually pure customization. If anything, the gambits only expose how completely repetitive and simple RPGs are.

I'm so pumped for this game. Even if the reviews were horrible I'd be pumped for it, but I admit seeing all these perfect scores and 9's and 9.5's is definitely nice... I even loved the demo and most people puked over that thing. This whole game looks absolutely amazing to me. October 31st, October 31st, October 31st....

They got the Cid bit wrong. The guy they called Cid is supposed to be Al Sid Malgaras. The actual Cid is a researcher for the Archadians.

Hmm...I'm sure the young fella they highlighted was Al Cid.

Not just Cid.

Obviously, you've forgotten that Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra comes out this year :p

Square has teased me for so long with FFXII that I honestly don't care enough anymore to read any of that. I hear it's a pretty good game so I'll probably buy it when it's released in PAL sometime in the next ten years.

Yep, that's definitely Al-Cid (or Alside, or whatever transliteration I've seen so far :p), and not Doctor Cid.

Thanks a ton for sharing those pages with us! Great review; I don't agree with the character under-development bit though (I loved FF VIII, but there you could definitely say there was character underdevelopment; you still have more than enough in FF XII to understand where the characters come from, why they are here and why they take the decisions they do, and grow fond of all of the members of the main party, which imo is enough in a video game - I don't need to know their favorite color:p ).

Where I agree though is about the lack of mini-games. I was surprised how little of them there were (actually, apart from the mob-hunts, which do take a lot of time to clear, alright, they are close to none). That for me is the one most annoying thing about the game

Obviously, you've forgotten that Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra comes out this year

I have been sorely disappointed by Xenosaga, where I only really like the story. That being said, it will be the last of the series (unless Square somehow gets the franchise back, but I doubt it) so I guess we'll have to play it :p That being said, from all the previews I've seen, I'm not too excited. Oh well, hopefully, they'll prove me wrong and will go out with a wonderful game!

Yes well I intend to sneak into Square-Enix's head office and hold them all ransom until they make a final fantasy just for me. And then they release all of the other Final fantasy games in Europe first. And then they make the finalfantasy games all about me. Wow I really have gone insane.

I'm just glad that no one here complained that it got a 9.5 instead of 10 when 9.5 is nearly perfect now which pic is of Cid?
The only thing I have to say about XII so far is why do all the main characters basically have the same eyes. Just look at them everyone's eyes are all small and squinty, they just make the clothes, the shape of the head, and the hair different. The game was influenced by FF tactics and vagrant Story I didn't know that is vagrant Story good?

Then there is Al Cid/El-Cid/Alshid...I don't know his name but he's the Rosarian prince.

They didn't get into Chocobo riding. I thought that was going to be quirky this time. Where like you had to rent them for a specific period of time. And some would be impatient and run off on you when you got off while others would hang around and wait for you. Or was that idea axed?

The review didn't really get me any more excited than I was already. As I had a feeling this would be an RPG experience a little different (thankfully) than the rest. It just reaffirms what I already suspected. I will probably be one of those people learning the best Gambits for putting your people totally on auto-pilot. As I abhore random encounters and the tedium of standard role playing fare.

Though summons being worthless in boss fights...? You hardly need them in regular encounters I'd imagine, so I wonder what exactly the point would be. That's almost as goofy as FF8 where it was basically the opposite. For the better portion of the game you had to use summons almost exclusively to do any real damage.

It is cool though you can basically form your own team based on who you like best instead of them having their own skills where they're kinda required from time to time.

Have they said where/when this game takes place in comparison to the Tactics games? They say its the same world. I'm assuming its after FFT? And when did FFTA take place in comparison to the two? :]

Also it says the Judges are back. I assume that means they were in one of the tactics games?

I didn't remember that you needed summons more in FF VIII, although they are hardly ever that necessary :O_O: Except in FF X to insure an overkill against some of the bosses in the game in its first stages, but that's pretty much it.....

There's a really great article about the chronology of Ivalice here:

Ivalice: Chronologie (http://www.ffworld.com/?rub=ff12&page=ivalice_chrono)

It's in French though; I'll try to post a rough translation later (I'm at work, and they actually gave me stuff to do :p), but basically, they say that FF XII's main part happens during year 706 of the "Ancient Valendien" era. The events around the character of Ajora Glabados must have happened somewhat later, which is twelve centuries before FFT.

Obviously, in FFTA, St Ivalice is the latest incarnation of Ivalice, but the writer of this article is of the opinion that you are transported back to the FF XII time period roughly (with the presence of so many characteristics that are similar -Vieira, Judges, Moogles associated with mob hunts, etc), it would make sense)

The Ivalice in FFXII is the same Ivalice as FFT and FFTA but FFXII takes place in the Galtea region.

I've never played FFT or FFTA so I wouldn't know if Galtea is mentioned at all in that game...

Vyk

I know its the same world. But its in a different time period. But XII looked to be a bit more advanced than FFT. So I figured it was in FFT's future. But I guess not

Dynast-Kid

I just made that post to inform about that Galtea part...

Anyway it does look more advanced.

I was under the impression that it was announced very early on that the Ivalice from each game is completely independant of the others. They're all different Ivalices. The only reason FFTA and FFXII are so similar could be explained through the belief that when Mewt said his favorite video game was Final Fantasy, he was referring to FFXII and so the Ivalice in FFTA was an emulation of the FFXII Ivalice.

You are correct. They are all independent of eachother. FFT has no Vieras, Bangaas, etc. and is much less fanciful. FFTA is more than likely an emulation of XII's world.

Hmmm, no, actually, it's one Ivalice throughout the ages. The reason why there are no Vieras, Bangaas etc in FFT is because FFT happens more than a millenium after FF XII (that being said, don't ask me why they disappeared from the map at some point....)
