I just saw this movie for the first time. All I can say is just...wow.
Especially the shootout between all those girls after one of them tried to poison that guy.

I love this movie. The idea was so dark and unique that I couldn't help liking it. Although I found myself annoyed with the the two survivors. They whined pretty much the whole time. I liked the girl seeking revenge from the people who bullied her. She scared the piss out of me.

I enjoyed the movie, but I found the book to be vastly superior. I love it. There's more Shogo. There's more everything, obviously. I definitely didn't care as much about the people in the movie. But it was entertaining.

I read in some magazine that someone is thinking of remaking the movie (following in the footsteps of the grudge and the ring)

Yes. Many Japanese movies are going to be remade from the looks of it. It is rumored that the director of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift will be directing the American remake.

Battle Royale is amazing. I knew that as soon as I saw Shuya's weapon: a pot lid. Plus, it has Beat Takeshi in it. How can it be bad if Beat Takeshi is in it?

It sort of reminded me of Lord of the Flies, only better.

That's exactly what I was thinking while I was watching it.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. However I did feel that there were one too many mushy love stories in it

It's my favourite Movie, I love it. The book is also really good, but I don't like it as MUCH more as Krissy, probably 'cause I saw the movie first. I do think it's better, just not by as much. And Kiriyama is way cooler in the film.

But yeah. There's so many underlying ideas and things in the story, and it's all good.

BRII is awesome, too. YEAH, IT IS! :mad2:

BRII is crap kyono, too many people died too quickly in the second one imo

Plus they forgot to put an actual battle royal in the second one. I mean really.

The first one is excellent though. Of course, I tend to rate any movie that plays classical music at incredibly inappropriate moments rather highly.

Yeah, you just keep rocking back and forth in the corner telling yourself that, and we'll carry on with our little perpetual dance in the area we like to call reality.

Anyways, Battle Royale rocks. If they do make an American remake I'm hoping they get Dennis Hopper to play Kitano. Primarily because Denis Hopper kicks ass. But they'll probably get someone lamer, like William Hurt.

When I first saw this movie I was blown away. It was really really good. I was hoping they would make a TV series for a remake, mostly just so they could add more content (because there would be more episodes), but meh. The remake may suck, but that's the only way mainstream America will get to see it (most, but not all, people hate reading subtitles because they just generally hate reading). I guess if the remake sucks, it sucks. There's not much we can do except ignore how crappy it is. I mean, all the Battle Royale fans saying that they hate the idea of a remake won't suddenly make the director just completely drop the project -_-

The only thing I fear about the remake is if they have stupid, clichéd one-liners in there, like, "You either kill or be killed!" or something. They'll probably kill half of the characters off in the beginning because of an explosion just so the audience won't have to keep track of 42 characters :o

And Kiriyama is way cooler in the film. They always get the attractive people to play psychotics. :choc2:

Never. And not nearly as good as the first.

If you people all seriously expected BRII to be just another Battle Royale then of course the film is going to be bad. But really, if it was just another battle royale it would have been pointless and ultimately boring, because there's only so many ways you can kill schoolkids before it gets kinda repetitive, and there's not much more you can do with the story. Plus, as already mentioned, the first film was based off a book, the second wasn't. For what it was, the second was a good film, the story was interesting, Riki Takeuchi is hilarious and surprisingly moving when he has to be, and again there was a good feeling of what happens to a group of friends when put under a certain situation, which is what the general idea of these two films is supposed to be about. Sure, the main lead overacted way too much, but other than that there was nothing wrong with the film at all.

Yeah, sure, except for the fact that if and when any important character needed to make a speech, the enemy would just stop shooting at them so they could make a poetic speech. Does this make any sense?

Oh, that, and the whole massacre at the beginning. We only get to know like 10 characters because most of them are killed off in the beginning.

The first Battle Royale was original and beautiful, in its own kind of way, and Battle Royale II was a sloppy mess that didn't make much sense.

Oh yeah, that too. And no, It doesn't make sense, but there was no scene where there were suddenly soldiers standing there and just stopping shooting while they were talking and just milling around in the background. The only time it was really dumb was when they were in the stairwell at the end when there were only three of them left. The rest of the time it was pretty much fine, the only other time I can recall off the top of my head of it happening is when they are in the room with the female sniper and the tech girl, and I pretty much just attributed that to them sneaking up on them because they did, and then they killed them, so yeah.

I don't know why the massacre at the start is such a problem. Yeah, we only get to know 10 of the schoolkids, but so what? The kids weren't the main focus of the story this time, it was the kids AND the Wild 7. Also the whole point of the massacre was to emphasis how many people get killed in warlike environments AND to show the level of skill of the wild 7 group.

BRII made plenty of sense to me, when you look at it in the context of the world that BR is set in. The only thing that was really unnecessary was the part where Takeuchi went in in the rugby outfit, but that is also just completely random and it's funny, so I like it. :}

I was told about this film in college and my now ex boyfriend downloaded it for us and we both really enjoyed it. It is such a poweful movie and the fact that its children killing each other makes it more unbelieveable! I didnt enjoy the second as much though. It was more a war then a game.

I love Battle Royal, my friend told me not to botherwatching the second one as it sucked so bad, (we have almost identical taste so I trusted him on that) although I don't doubt I'll eventually watch it anyway, Iceglow wants to see it, so I know we will.

I want to read the book, I've heard good stuff about it.
