Job combinations for later in the game are X-fight and 2-swords, X-fight and sorcerer, X-magic and time magic, and X-magic and summon
For world one/world two 2-handed goes with any physical attacker, barefist is good on a mage very early on and Blue magic as a second ability on at least on character for the end of world one to beginning of world two.
You get 3 ABP for defeating a group of 3 bandrsnatches (available as soon as you leave the wind shrine) 4 ABP for defeating a group of five black flames, and you get a nice 5 ABP for defeating a skull eater

hmmm... haste2 is a strong addition to any party but later in the game you can buy an expensive relic to replace it. Quick isnt available until much later but this is extremely useful on any type of character. Comet is good when you first get it (and cheap!) and meteo has its uses.

Some neat combinations:
White Magic + Black Magic
2 Swords + X-Fight
X-Magic + Dimen/Summon (or even X-Magic + Dimen + Summon if you're using the Mimic class)
Mage class + Brawl (turn your mage into a tough physical fighter)
2 Swords + X-Fight + Dimen (with Bare or Mimic class, then use Quick and X-Fight twice to hit the enemies 16 times)
To gain a lot of ABP early in the game, be sure to get the Blow Fish (1000 Needles) blue magic spell from the Lamia monsters in the Lonka Ruins. Then go to the Cave of Jacole and defeat the Skull Eaters there with Blow Fish for 5 ABP.

Any mage plus the !Drgnswrd command is infinitely more useful. Dragonsword will heal the user and give them any mp the enemy has (much more than you'd get with Mystery Waltz) The only thing is you have to remember not to attack undead enemies with it xD It's a very useful way to be able to make a decent attack while replenishing your mp.
