hmmm.

fraid I have to say I dont.

I like the locales that have an eerie wind sound rushing through the locations cliffs and tunnels etc.

and... I would probably get rid of some of the compositions I hear often (excluding the battle themes because they kick ass anytime) like... probably the city themes and change them to something more ambient.

Music Hacking is pretty redundant. If you want to listen to something other than the normal game music, your best bet is to disable the sound in the config menu and use your favourite media player.

Change the ingame music, and you'll probably end up hating whatever you changed it to aswell.

Why hack the music? Just go in the options menu and lower the "music" all the way down. Now turn on some music with your computer stereo or whatever.

PS: I know what you mean though. I do like the other FF musical scores better than XI. Though Selbinas theme is pretty cool. Other than that, and a couple others...eh.

Only music I would want the change would be the new BC music for ToA and make it on THE WHOLE TIME. I hate how when you engaged it changes. >.< It sounded so cool till you engage.

Ouch!

Like others have said: turn down the music and start up a media player.

I turn down the music in-game and run winamp. Or I just set my stereo system to CD instead of PC, and listen to albums.

I like the music in some areas, in others I play media player in the background and turn down the music of the area...

But I hardly call it hacking :p

i like some of the bg music in certain areas of the game, but even if i didnt like it, i cant turn the music down while playing ffxi. listening to something other than the bg music distracts me from the game.

I was just goofing around with it and put funky town as the battle theme :D

I changed it sooo many times i think right now i have "Light" by KMFDM looping for my battle music, but its funny to have the calm tranquil town music or the wind sound then KMFDM busting out for the battles  :evilking:
:nibbles:+:shoot:=:tumble: :skull:

you have to edit the code in the game itself and convert music files to a specific format to use, its a long process finding the right file to edit but its fun as hell to hear funky town in say selbina or while fighing or Closer by NIN for moghouse or airship music ...

Google : FFXI + Music + Hack

Good luck :D

Is there a way to use this music hacking thing, to like... Get the music OUT of the game? So you can play it whenever?

Like others have said: turn down the music and start up a media player.

well thats logical.

but it takes the feel that you are in the game right out.

for example.

going into battle your using say... media player.

:D..... no instantanious change of music to keep you energized.

thats part of the point of music hacking...

That instantanious change loses its touch after 3 years and so many grinding sessions.

And No.78, you can buy/download the OST. Just like every other FF game.

I can't find the Caedarva Mire theme tune anywhere on the net... Besides that wasn't the answer to my question.

Just like any game, you can rip the music files and convert them into MP3 using certain tools. However, you'll have to look for that yourself, as I don't know what the program is called.

Also, I downloaded the new expansion's OST via torrent, not long ago. I'm sure it'd still be easy to find.

Yes you can convert the files in the actual software on your comp from the format the game uses to Wave or Mp3. I don't remember the name of the software... there should be a download of it on at least one of the walkthrough websites, thats where I found it. :D

Note this is only (as far as I know) for PC Version of FFXI.

I can't actually hack the music as im using the 360 version now. (My pc was ancient, I couldnt afford another one. If you don't like it, well meh to you! >:O)

If I could, I probably would. Some of the music in FFXI is just a little bit on the irritating side. Especially after playing it for so long (imported the PC version shortly after US release).

But you could afford a 360? Funny, I could have buffed your PC a lot for the cost of a 360...

Anyway, the poll doesn't have the "I turn off music and use winamp" option.
