Fresh return to college, game inaccessible

I was wondering if you cats, particularly the computer adept, could help me with some problems I've been having with FFXI. Since returning back to my college campus, I've not been able to play FFXI. There is not problem, I can assure you, with my pc's specs, nor is there a problem with my payment. I simply cannot access the game. I'm supposing that being on a network has something to do with it, but what? Is there a way to speed up my connection on a network (which is what I suspect the problem is)? Or perhaps ought I put down the game and wait until summer to pick it back up again?

The game caps itself on a 56K speed so when you are on Cable or DSL or a T1, the game isnt significantly faster so i doubt that is the main problem here.

What i think is that theres two things....either your computer has a firewall over the ports that FFXI use and you need to either forward or disable your firewall...

Or

Your college campus has a firewall of its own thats disabling you from accessing the game. You may be able to forward your ports and see if it works, if it doesnt though you may be out of luck.

Fayetteville or UoA here in Arkansas had it to where DNAS would not connect through the school internet. They said "this is the main port hackers come in"

so your college might have the same thing going on. Now as for a way around that. You "can" buy your own internet for the room but that is costly and very much so if your by yourself with no roomie. But if you do have a roomie buy the fastest speed you can afford and out do the campus internet any way :cool:

You don't need to forward anything in order to FFXI to work... You only have outgoing connections.

Heh, I suppose you guys are telling me that it's hopeless until I get my own place next semester... le sigh.

I was doing so well >.< Lv. 55 in 2 months.
