Why is it that all of the 3-D Sonic games suck? I mean the 3-D Mario games don't suck the little Italian plumber, made a successful transition, into 3-D...Why can't the little blue hedgehog, do the same?

The 3D levels are rife with bottomless pits, requiring the player to be extremely careful in every step he takes lest he go slipping to his death at any moment. This is not how a game about speed should be constructed.

And the speed you do build up only occurs by running over "speed pads" that send you through scripted events that attempt to capture the exhilaration of the 2D games. The only problem with this is that the speed in those games was entirely a product of physics, in that you'd build momentum naturally as you ran down slopes and through loops and so forth, which was much more satisfying than just having the game arbitrarily say, "Okay now go fast here."

>>> Thats right, but experience speed in a 3D environment is way more satisfactory than do it in 2D..

What ryukishi said plus 3D games make me feel sick usually which doesn't help, and Sonic is just not MEANT to be 3d. No. Nonono.

Have to agree with you there. The biggest reason I'm interested in the Wii version is because it features Sonic, and Sonic only.

Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast was decent, Sonic can definately pull off being in 3-D. Sega have been lazy with the recent Sonic games, hopefully the next Sonic game for the PS3 and Wii turn out to be good.

Sonic Adventure DX was a great game, Sonic Heroes was a massive failure though.

Can't vouch for the first. Definitely agree with the second part, though.

Quite honestly, I have never played a good 3D sonic, and i think that he is best in 2d, and perhaps they could do a NSMB-isque version of Sonic.

Where is Joel?

Anyway, I like the 2D Sonic Games much more than the 3D Sonic Games. Sonic Advance 1 = Best game for GBA. Oddly, I haven't gotten Sonic Rush yet. The 3D Sonic games were pretty cool, but (insert everything Kishi said here).

I loved Sonic Adventure Battle DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

both lovely games, I loved the music aswell.

the music... however turned me off of Sonic Heroes, that and the unvarying gameplay.

with DX and Adventure 2 Battle, you had a Chao System and differant ways to play the game aswell.

... I ... honestly really liked the storylines aswell n_n-b

Don't worry about it too much. Learn how to recognize sarcasm.
The Sonic game for DS is called Sonic Rush

The only Sonic games that sucked were SonicN, Sonic Shuffle and Sonic Championship. Heroes wasnt a bad game but wasnt great either.

Damnit, I was drunk,

Translation of my post:

The 3D sonic games were not that bad. People just give them a bad rep because of crap places like Gamespy and IGN have to say.

That last sentence still didn't make any sense.

Personally, I agree that some people may be influenced by big site's opinions. However, there is always the possibility that people make that decision on their own, and I believe that the reason it got such a bad reputation was because the majority simply didn't like it.

Granted the 3D Sonic games weren't as good as the 2D ones on the Genesis and GBA but they were actually pretty good. I mean Shadow the Hedgehog did the best example of a 'choose your own adventure' book in a game I'd ever seen.

I only like the 2D ones. The first Sonic Adventure was alright. I just wish they would make a GIANT 2D sonic game that has some sort of snadbox type deal...or something like Mario 64 concerning levels.

They did, Sonic CD for the PC and Sega CD had those levels.

Oh yeah. I should know that. They should make another one like that with newer stuff then.

i think the whole reason sonic 3d games suck is because the 2d ones were so awesome
