Okay, so we have debates in school about which one of these is the greatest:

-Suikoden II
-Suikoden V
-Final Fantasy X

My friends were all graphic-freaks and all of them vote for Final Fantasy X but I disagree with that because we must look a game in all aspects. So, I'm asking all of you. Which one do you think is the greatest?

My vote goes to Suikoden II.
In order from favourite to least favourite:

1. Suikoden II
2. Suikoden V
3. Final Fantasy X

Suikoden II
Final Fantasy X
Suikoden V

They're all pretty close, but clearly Suikoden II is the best.

Edit: Remember that many more people will have played FFX than Suikoden II or V in the first place.

Suikoden II is the best out of those three.

Suikoden II is the Jessica Alba of the group. Yay Suikoden II.

As of now, I am the greatest. This is only true because I have yet to experience the "phenomenon" that is Suikoden and I haven't played FFX.

You are wrong. It is the best. Quite possibly the best game ever made, period.

This is not to detract from the quality of other games. There is still a near-infinite amount of quality a game can have whilst still being not as good as Suikoden II.

why is no one extolling the virtues of suiko2??

WHY does everyone else think it's the ultimate rpg or even game for that matter?

Suikoden II is a very good game, I'll give you that. But the only thing that really seperates it from other RPGs is it's story is fantastic and it's got a ton of very good characters. The character raising system is really nothing very 'outstanding', the only thing the characters get by leveling up is stat upgrades, they can't learn new skills or spells on their own without Runes. Suikoden II is 31 Flavours of groovy but calling it the best RPG ever made kinda slaps games like Dragon Quest IV and Phantasy Star II and IV in the face.

Just my opinion, so relax.

Almost every Suikoden (except for maybe 4) finds some way to work into your heart, and stay there.

Indeed it does, because those games aren't as good as Suikoden II.

four was ok...people don't seem to notice that you can speed up the ship with a special button press...though it is probably the low point in the series it's still leagues (tee hee) better than a lot of rpgs

Bad pun!

I didn't like the STYLE of 4...but it was saved by the fact Ted was in it. :)

OH OH OH OH WESLY WESLY *waves hand in the air*

Did you actually playthose games for a few hours?

Raistlin

DQ IV and that Phantasy Star game you showed me (that was IV, right?), yes.

Erdrick Holmes
09-17-2006, 06:55 AM
At least you got some credibility now that you actually played them.

Yeah it was IV, how far did you get in it?

Madame Adequate
09-17-2006, 10:32 AM
Just because it has a progression system you don't like doesn't mean it's less good than games with progression systems you do like. Personally, it gets very annoying having to choose only a fairly small number of skills for your party: This is a good thing, because it makes you think about what you actually want.

True, very true! SuikoIV is bad, very bad! But I like Lazlo, Punishment Rune (Cool Rune!), Soul Eater (Best True Rune ever), Ted and La Mer (Best Opening Ever).

Did you guys know that Tir passed the Soul Eater to me?

Also because FFX is the best non-Suikoden RPG out there.

Suikoden 5 all the way! I have ffx and Suikoden 5 and i can honestly say the Suikoden 5 is better.

Captain Maxx Power

Suikoden 2 gotten hold of, but since I found out you can use Suikoden 1 data I've had to get hold of that as well. I'll have an opinion in about five weeks.

I haven't played any of the Suikoden games (I only saw Suikoden IV being played, and a kitty was a playable character). I guess I'll just trust you guys in them being good games. Do I need to play them in any order, or are they not chronologically connected? I hear that the earlier ones are extremely rare.

Jowy

Storyline wise:

Suikoden IV > Suikoden Tactics > Suikoden V > Suikoden > Suikoden II > Suikoden III.

Doesn't really matter where you pick up from, they're all pretty decent. II's the best though.

ValkyrieWing

However, being able to upload your data from one game to another means playing them in order. :)

Madame Adequate
09-18-2006, 10:59 AM
You can only transfer data from I to II though, can't you?

Edit: And II to III.

Captain Maxx Power

Yes, from I to II to III. However seeing as I can't get hold of the games in PAL format without paying through the nose, I'll only get to play I and II since III is a PS2 game and for reasons I couldn't possibly mention here I couldn't transfer my save from II to III without the proper tools.

Madame Adequate
09-18-2006, 11:32 AM
Transferring data from II to III affects very little, if I recall correctly. A lot less than I to II does, that's for sure.

Captain Maxx Power
09-18-2006, 03:24 PM
Well that's good to know if I ever feel the need to continue with III at some point.

Incidentally I'm currently playing I and so far it's rather doody (that's good by the way). Not particularly hard or spectacular, but then again that whole thing with the armies against each other I saw in the starting video looks VERY intriguing. Also do all dragons sound like elephants?

Hi, if you judge RPGs on character skill upgrades, you might want to play them on a PC, not videogame consoles.

Erdrick Holmes
09-18-2006, 07:55 PM
There are plenty of console RPGs with skill/spell upgrades. Dragon Quest 7 and 8, Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga, and some of the Final Fantasys.

Madame Adequate
09-18-2006, 09:51 PM
And none of them compare to what you can get on the PC.
