Rareware really sucks. Remember how ballyhooed they were in the days of the N64? Easily the most overrated company ever. Their games, aside from Starfox 64, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark, were completely boring. They runied Donkey Kong and ripped off Super Mario 64 about a dozen times. Bah.

Discuss.

They sure as hell ripped them off.

Banjo-Kazooie was kinda fun though. Everything else was just really lame.

Rare didn't make StarFox 64. Goldeneye was alright, but I am one of the few that was more satisfied with Perfect Dark. Pretty much everything else sucked. I thought Banjo-Kazooie was alright...untill they had you collect 5,000 things every level.

I remember when Microsoft bought them out I was like, "Microsoft is helping Nintendo out, I guess."

Perfect Dark and Goldeneye were great. Let's get that out of the way right now.

Can't really say the same for the rest of their library, though.

I feel bad for Microsoft, (just this once) they paid $500 million to buy Rare from Nintendo and so far have not received anything back from their investment. Well they did get these,

-Grabbed by the Ghoulies (crap)
-Kameo(crap)
-Perfect Dark Zero (somehow turned into crap)

Let's look into the future.
-Viva Pinata (crap)

Wow Nintendo really is a smart company after all.

Edit: Thank you roto13-ness for making another thread named rare games, owww my head, don't know which is which.

What about Conkers Bad Fur Day? That was a good game. I loved it. Banjo Kazooie deserves a mention too.

But yeah they sure as hell ruined Donkey Kong. That games sucked so much...

Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007 absolve Rare of anything else they might ever do, up to and including the genocide of ethnic minorities.

Edit: We're all forgetting Jet Force Gemini, too.

I'm not. How can I forget it? That's like forgetting the holocaust.

Rare was good back in the day of SNES with Donkey Kong Country. And on N64 they had the games already mentioned, namely Banjo-kazooie, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, and Jet Force Gemini. But excluding those and after that, they've done very little well.

I'm not completely sure how to process the ancient, primordial anger instilled in me by the suggestion that Rare had anything to do with the greatness of Star Fox 64.

Donkey Kong 64 was bad, but all the ones beforew it were good, and so were Banjo Kazooie, Perfect dark, and Goldeneye.

Haven't played all of their games, but all the ones I did play were great... Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 were awesome. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were both awesome, as was Diddy Kong Racing and StarFox Adventures. Hmm.. oh, I guess I wasn't really into Conker's Bad Fur Day, though...

Lol.

Now that I think about Conkers Bad Fur Day is my favourite game. Ever. I just loved the single player and the multiplayer was the best.

GoldenEye was brilliant and Diddy Kong Racing was just so much fun. I've spent countless hours playing both games in multiplayer mode. Ah, the nostalgia... I wish I had a Nintendo 64 so I could play Mario 64 and Zelda as well.

Banjo Kazooie beats the awful Super Mario 64 in every department as far as I'm concerned. I'll put money on the fact that Rare were disappointed when Mario 64 was released, decided they could make their own 3D game that was a zillion times better than Mario 64 and improved on it in every way.

Goldeneye was okay, but incredibly overrated in my opinion. The multiplayer was awesome, but the level design on some of the single player missions was downright atrocious.

As for the others? Donkey Kong 64 was a massive pile of manure, Jet Force Gemini was a boring waste of time and Perfect Dark didn't impress me at all with its awful story, boring levels and unacceptable frame-rate.

Diddy Kong racing was excellent, though. Again, Rare took the formula of Mario Kart 64, realised that Nintendo had made a complete pigs ear out of it and released their own game that bettered it in every imaginable way.

Goldeneye bored the living hell out of me, except for multiplayer. Conker games sucked, and Banjo Kazooie I never played.

So far the only Rare games that didn't suck were the Donkey Kongs and Battletoads. (assuming the Rare that made 'toads is the same Rare that made those games.)
